I just recently had a baby and love her to death. I am having a hard time on deciding wheather or not to go back on the pill or go for the IUD. I have heard a couple horror stories of them not working and alot of good things. Any advice??

I have the Mirena and I love it, too! I also recently had a baby while on the Mirena, but as you see, I'm on it again...lol! I also had other health issues at the time, which doctors think is why it didn't work for me last time, but hopefully this time's a charm! I love having no periods and just not thinking about it. I've gotten pregnant on everything else, from pills, to depo shot, to the patch, so if I had to choose, it would be Mirena!

I have Mirana and love it for the most part... for the first year or so I had some spotting but nothing major. I have had it for about 3 1/2 years after my second child. Now I still get regular periods I don't know what thats about but I can deal with it. Before I would get one like every three months or so. I don't notice it and I didn't have a problem getting it. It is a quick in and out thing. My husband has been poked with it and when I asked the dr. she just trimmed the pull string part of it a little bit every once and a while it still pokes him, but not every time. It is nice not having to worry about a pill or condoms. I have no worries and plan on getting it again once the 5 years is up as I am planning on no more kids!

About 2 mos after my daughter was born I had an IUD. The mirena is more popular due to it being plastic and the original IUD is copper. Copper can give you an increase chance of infections and possibly not being as effective as the plastic Mirena. Also the perks of Mirena, it helps with any type of acne, can fully stop periods, and has no bloating or weight gain like the pill or shot.
I had the mirena IUD for over 2 years and did not have one problem with it moving, falling out or infections. It stopped my period and healed my acne. But when it was time for a visit from auntie I had bad cramping.
When you initialy get it, it takes about 5mins to insert. It will hurt and cramp you for a couple hours. Listen to your doc or whoever gives it you when they say do NOT have sex for 48-72hrs. It has to settle. It comes with a little string that you can feel if you do a vaginal exam on yourself, it does not hurt your partner, my husband didnt even notice it.
I got mine taken out in Nov 08 and was pregnant by June 09. We were planning for our second and my doctor recommended that I take it out three to six months prior for best results of getting pregnant, because I had it for over a year.
Hope this all helpsand I am for sure getting my IUD back as soon as this baby is born!!

All you hear are the horror stories. Well here is mine, I got pregnant while taking the pill and using condoms. I have had my Mirena for a little over a year and have only had one period. I love it. We don't have to worry about using condoms and we are enjoying how much better I feel. The pill gave me horrid cramps and migranes. I don't have any of that with the Mirena and not having a period at all is bliss!!!

I've had my mirena for (only) 3 months, but I can't complain! No cramping at all, very light spotting (occasionally). It hurt to get in, but that was because my cervix was totally closed, so I got a pill to stick up there and when I went back it went in no problem and it actually didn't really hurt that time, just uncomfortable.

I have the Mirena as well and LOVE it!!! There are only 2 things I would have done differently, 1, made sure I had someone at home ALL day instead of just during my appt, don't let them fool you, you are sore afterwards for a day. And 2, gotten the copper IUD instead of Mirena. Don't get me wrong, I love my Mirena, but after doing a report for school on a different topic, I started running across more and more things about the copper IUD, and it was then I realized that, DUH, copper is more natural than plastic...bottom line, you are less likely to have a reaction to the copper than the plastic.

I had a Mirana iud put in 4 years ago. . . I started getting leg pains about 6 months after getting it. . . Dr's didn't know why they sugested I try calcium suplements. . . did not work. I found out 6 months ago I was pregnant with the iud, but I haven't had luck with any birth control. . .for the most part I loved it, not having to worry about pills or shots or periods. . . positives out weigh the negatives I am planing to get another one after this baby is born

My sister loves hers - she's gotten it put in after both her children. I tried to have one put in, but since I'd had my son c-section, it wouldn't go...I've heard very little negative about it. I'd go w/ it if I could!

i have an iud. I LOVE it. it is a lot eaiser then the pill. i have mirena. i dont have to worry about taking a pill everyday or worry if i didnt take it. i have had it in for almost 7 months. i have had no problems with it. i would never go to the pill. it has worked so far for me, and my hubby cant wear condoms. i havent gotten pregnant yet. i have no worries about it not working.

hope this helps. do your research if you are unsure.
