My son is just over 2 months old and weighs 15lbs, and is 60cm long. I find it amusing that he isn't even 3 months old and has already outgrown all of his 3mth sleepers and outfits and is now into his 6mth stuff... We have stuff he hasn't even had a chance to wear because he's growing like a bad weed!! Has anyone else wondered why they make baby clothes that go by age and their actual age never seems to match up with the "age" on their clothes?

My daughter actually does match up with her sizes and age. At least until recently. She's a skinny baby so 12 month pants fit her in the waist but are too short, 18 month pants look huge on her. Thank God for dresses.

My oldest ( two year old b/g twins) were both in preemie clothes, but for the first few months of their lives they were in a different size every month up until they were around 6 months. Then they pretty much were straight on despite the fact my daughter was a few inches shorter.

With my youngest who will be five months old on the 12th he is in between sizes a 3-6 and a 6-9. He's 14 pounds 13 ounces and 24-26 inches long ( there was a decrepency at the dr)

Jevonna, I'm curious as to how much your bubby weighed at birth. Your son and mine are about the same size, yours is just 2in longer (at 4 months). My son is going for his 6 month well check on the 8th of Dec.

my son was 16 lbs at 2 month old and 24in long.
at 4 months old he weight 19lbs 7oz and 28 inches long now he is 6 months old and will be going in to the doc next week. i am guessing he weighs about 22-23 lbs and is at least 31 inches.
he wears 18 to 24 month clothing right now at six months old!

my daughter is 4 yrs old and she has grown alot!.. she is about 35-40lbs a little over 3 feet tall and wears a size 9 shoe. just a couple mths ago she was a size 7 in shoe. After she hit 2 yrs old she really started growing..she can fit into 3T/4T but she still wears 6mths-24mth outfits..it just depends on how the clothes are made is what im guessing. bcuz even some 3T clothes are tight on my daughter.

I guess they make baby clothes based on the average weight and height of a baby. It sounds like your baby is going to be a basketball player LOL! J/K!!:) Yeah my baby girl is 4 months and she is in some 6 month clothes. She still fits into some of her 3-6 month clothes but a lot of them I had to box up.

i HATE the age/weight on baby clothes... theyre never right! and theyre all different depending on the outfit, even if its the same brand! my daughter is in 18-24 month sleepers and shirts, but the 18-24 month pants are too long but the 12 month pants are too small. and shes thin with long legs and i still have this problem. my daughter was in the 10/12th% when she was born, and by her 6 week checkup she was at 50/60%, and since then has been hovering around the 65/75% range... slightly above average, with her height and weight being very proportional.

I have always wondered the same thing!!! My daughter was born 9lbs 13.5oz and 22 1/2 in long! She will be 5 in Jan. so I'm not entirely sure how much she weighed when, but she is about 65-70lbs and 4ft tall! She is in a 6X/7 and some 7/8s in girls! And has a size 1 shoe in girls! She has always been in the 95th percentile or off the charts for both height and weight.

My son was born 8lbs 12.5oz and 21 3/4in long. He dropped to just about 8lbs when we left the hospital (him & his sister both only ate about 2-3times the first 3 days of life). At 14 days old he was up to 9.9lbs (even w/bad reflux and sensitivity to milk... I breastfeed), at 7wks old he was 14lbs! He has since slowed down which is sort of scaring me, he will be 5 months on the 10th and is about 18lbs, he was approx. 16lbs at 3 months. I guess I was eating all the right things for him to have continued to gain weight even w/the terrible reflux (constantly spitting up!). He hasn't seemed to gain anymore weight. Before he hit about 3 months old I could tell just from carrying him that he was gaining weight. He fits a few 3-6month onesies (depends on the brand and they are snug), and anywhere from 6-9m to 18m for all the rest of his clothes. He was born smaller then we anticipated w/how big my daughter was so we got all bigger sizes for him from the baby shower and what not, but had to do some shopping and ended up buying too many smaller clothes. haha.

I LOVE big babies! :) Little ones scare me, my son was not little, but just that 1#1oz less then my daughter was tiny for me and I was afraid of hurting him, but he got big quick so it worked out.

I just find it varies so much depending on the brand that I just get used to being able to visualize her so I can pick stuff out. Not too easy when they keep growing on you, but easier than relying on numbers that seem somewhat meaningless. My daughter is below average in height and weight, so you'd think she wouldn't be wearing things in a bigger size than she really is. But at 16 months old we had to start buying two year old's pants for her because her legs are longer than average. Just has a short torso I guess. She can only wear pants with adjustable waists because she is waaaaaay skinnier than the average two year old. It's kind of a nuisance.

My daughter was 15 lbs at SIX months old. Hehe. You have a big boy! She was up to 19 pounds by 13 months and then suddenly in the next three months she gained over three pounds! So she's getting closer to average, but she's not quite there yet. Not too shabby for a kid born five pounds though.

Yes, for sure. Clothes for babies are nearly always the wrong size. My baby is 9 months and he wears between 12months and 18months.

My daughter grew in a way where she got full use of all her clothes. She is in 12-18month clothing and is 16 months. Her clothing size was always right in target with her age. She can actually still even fit in some of her 12 month stuff but she only wears the tops in that size because its too cold for dresses now...18 month clotes fit, just not the pants because they're too big on her waist...we have to get the ones with the adjustable waist (has a pulley thing with buttons to make it smaller/bigger). She's 21 pounds and was 5 pounds 6 ounces at birth. She started out in preemie sizes, NB at 1 month, and wore 0-3 month clothes until almost 5 months, but once she was 6 months, she was in 6 month clothes and followed that pattern the rest of the time.

My daughter at her 6mos check up was 15lbs 1oz and 25" long. At 7mos I took her in for a bad cough and she was 16lbs12oz and 26 1/2" long!! Talk about a growth spurt! My daughter is in 6/9mos for length of clothes but is still in 3mos for waist size. On the other hand my son was right on for size and age...at 9mos he was in 9mos size. When he turned 2 he was in 24mos, then shortly after he was in 2T, now at 2 1/2 he is in 3-4T for shirts for the arm length but in 2T adjustable waist pants.

I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and it seems as though my two year old is almost catching up to my 4 year old lol.

My son is the opposite he will be 4 months on Monday and he still wears 0-3 month clothes. He is only 10 lbs 8 oz and 23 inches long!

my little girl grows so slow, she wore 0-3 month clothes till she was 6 months old, only weighted 17 pounds at 1 year and now at 18 months weighs 20 pounds and needs a belt with her 12 month pants, i think tags should say weight instead of age it would make it easier to find and harder to compare or worry about your child not fitting the Average size for there age

I think it's mainly that way to make it easier to find things since most babies do wear clothes by their size when they are little...but my son was always bigger than the clothes that he was "supposed" to be in! But my girls are in the same size as they are "supposed" to be. Maybe they do it to make it easier to buy them...ecspecialy since most people who don't have kids don't really know what size to buy. And every brand runs different I've noticed...some are bigger others are smaller! I have a 23month old and she is still in 18 months! HAHA
