Ok, my step daughter is two and a half and everytime she is in a car seat or high chair or stroller, etc.. she rubs her legs bcak and forth and gets all hot in the face. We've tried to ignore it but its becoming embarrassing. Is she masterbatting? Is this normal? Should I tell her to stop or get some help or what??

my baby is 10 months old and she is doing the same thing.. gets quite loud and its hard to ignore. Ive put her highchair close to the table and dont use the harness anymore. In her carseat I have doubled up a baby sheet and put it between her and the buckle.. this doesnt completely stop it but it helps.. I also have plenty of distractions available and am trying to just say not now. I also havent been using my pram as much and have been using a shopping trolley without the strap but making sure she is safe cause its totally mortifying when we are out shopping and she is going for it.
One of my three year old twins does it too but in bed ..so I guess its pretty natural, it just feels good..nothing sexual about it.

i think she could be masturbating... It sure sounds like it. It is actually not uncommon with young children. She probably doesn't have any clue what she is doing other than ... ooh that felt interesting! I wouldnt make a big deal of it even though it may be embarassing. If you tell her to stop and explain to her she needs to sit still it may help. Just try not to make her feel ashamed! Other than that treat it as if she is just squirmy and ask her if she needs to go potty or tak a walk for a minute. My baby book from the AAP says to try to ignore it... you can discuss privacy and modesty later. Btinging too much attention to is could cause more problems. If you feel the need to talk to the doctor about it... try to pull them aside privately to discuss it!
