ok so im realy low in folic acid so my doctor gave me some pills to take and i have been taking them but yesterday they asked me to go into the doctors and they told me that im still low on it. now apparently if can cause the spine not to develop properly as well as the brain. im realy realy worried about it!! i have to get an ultra sound every few weeks to cheak the progress of brain and spine development and in a few weeks if i have to i can get an abortion if the baby isnt developing properly. im not even exactly sure what all of this means! has anyone else been through this at all?? because i dont actually know what else i can do! i just dont understand my pregnancy with my first son was so easy and had no problems and now im worried im going to have to have an abortion or something. if anyone else has been through the same situation i would love to hear storys just so i know whats going on!

Folic acid is to prevent spina bifida, but things like elevate, blackmores pregnancy or just a simple folic acid tablet all contain enough folic acid to try and prevent this causing problems for bubs development. There are also alot of foods that contain folic acid like greens and some other things which i cant remember but ask your doctor.. because if you incorporate the foods into your diet plus a pregnancy vitamin this should be fine. As for the abortion, try not to worry ask lots of questions and maybe also go to another doctor or ask a midwive at the clinic where you'll be giving birth and they may have some extra help too. Goodluck and try not to worry until you have to :-)
