After having a couple of bad gallstone attack i decided to have my gallbladder removed because i could barely eat anything without setting it off. which in turn made my supply go down. then b4 Surgery i could not eat or drink for 12 hours prior to the surgery and till surgery was done and i could actually eat it was 20 hours. Then i could not nurse because of the pain as she would be laying across my inscisions. So i am still struggling with all that and need ideas to boost my supply. I do not want to use formula if i don't have to but something has got to give!!!!

the best way to increase supply is to put your baby to breast as often as possible. even if baby does not seem hungry, let her suckle. if your little one takes a pacifier, forget about using it until your supply is back on track. let her use YOU as a pacifier.

pumping may help but some women don't have much success with pumps because they don't stimulate the breasts as well as baby does.

fenugreek is an herb which works very well to increase supply, you can find it wherever supplements are sold. you take 2 or 3 capsules 3 times daily and usually on the third day you will notice an increase in your supply, as well as a maple syrup smell to your urine and sweat (this is normal). once you notice the increase, you do not need to keep taking it but in order to maintain the increase, you need to be completely emptying your breasts often.

good luck, and do not give up! your body is made to nourish a child, this is just a bump in the road!

I feel for you. I was in the same situation but my milk supply completely dried up. I was told by my lactation consultant that the best thing you can do is to drink a LOT of water and breastfeed as often as possible! If you are afraid that your daughter is not getting enough milk then you can try one of those supplementers where you put formula in this container and it hangs around your neck and while you breastfeed the baby also gets a little formula or whatever you decide to put it.. like expressed breast milk! Good luck! I ultimately had to give in to the formula which I was against all along. Hopefully you can increase your supply! Don't give up!

I agree mother's milk tea...works amazing. And pump in between feedings, it will make your body think you have a higher demand for your milk and help it go up.
If at home remedies don't work and your still worried ask your doctor...he can help with possible meds. But I hope you can fix it with at home tricks.
Good luck mama!

I have used the mother's milk tea.. it did work for me.. Also with the pumping between feedings, that will help increase your supply as well... There's also.. (don't laugh) cabbage leaves.. I was told about laying cabbage leaves across my breasts when I was engorged. It really helps the let down process.. So just a thought but that may help as well. =)

When I had my second, I ended up with an umbilical hernia as well. The feedings ended up getting quite painful when he started gaining a bit of weight with him resting on my abdomen. I would lay on my side in bed and nurse him that way.. It was a much more enjoyable experience.

Good luck.

Nurse as much as possible and pump as well. This will help to remind your body that you're still in need of your supply. Also be sure to eat healthy foods and drink lots of water. Good luck!
