I ave a question for moms that ave gotten a c-section or more than one c-section. Let me start from the beggining

After I had the c-section with my son Avery on Dec. 5, 2009... everything healed very well. I didn't ave any issues with it at all except for feeling a little pulling if I streatched to far.
I was also numb, from them cutting through everything, but I knew that would happen. I'm still numb! The area isn't as big as it was at first, but it's still there.

My question(s) is: Will the numbness ever go away? Will that area ever feel like it did before the c-section cut?

I would love to hear you're stories! And thank you for your time!

(sorry it was so long)

I JUST found out that you are supposed to sign a paper when your doctor talks to you and I was never even talked to. grrr. uh... back on subject... nope... still numb.

My step mom told me that it took about 10 years for the numbness to go away for her. It's been about 15 1/2 month for me and I can feel things but it isn't quite the same as before. I noticed that I get more numb during my period.

I never had a pulling feeling, but I do have stinging as the nerves reattach themselves to eachother.

I have had 2 in the last 2 years and I no longer have the pulling feeling and it's still a little tender and numb right where the incision is. I think eventutally over time it lessens. Yet that skin is gone it's a healing gash so I don't ever think it'll be exactly the same.Let's face it after kids things are never the same:)

I had an emergency c-section in June 2008 and healed up fine without it, no numbness or anything. In July 2010 I had a repeat and still no numbness.

Hello, my name is kori, I'm 28 and have had two children. Both births were c-sections. my oldest is 8 and my youngest is 5. Sadly I still have the numbness. the feeling is just now starting to come back and sometimes it feels like a burning sensation. What sucks is the fact that because I have scar tissue from both c-sections the doctor said that my stomach will permananly have a pooch. My suggestion is to have a natural birth the second time around if possible. My first c-section healed so smooth!

Everybody is different. mine is still numb when i had my son in april 2009.. My mom had me in 83 and hers is still numb in a few places.. just keep doing the excersizes and you could be one of the lucky ones and get all feeling back.. my scars are fading i put lots of cream with vitimane e on it or get the liquid pills and break them in half..

Still numb almost 2 years later, but it's not as bad as it was when I first had my daughter. I am going to have another c-section in May, so I am assuming it will be as numb as it was the first time around.

I got feeling back a few months after, but I healed very quickly, I think it just depends on your skin type etc, but nothing to worry about :)

I had my c-section in oct, 2002 it still does not feel the same as it did prior to my first cut, I have surface numbness only and that is only directly on the cut site! but I found/find my biggest issue is that it gets itchy I find myself mindlessly running my fingers along my scar often
it became very itchy with each subsequant pregnancy!

hi i had a c section in sept last year and i still have the numbness. my friend had a c section 6 years ago and she still has the numbness. i said to the doc and he said it might not go away fully. it all the tendents and muscle that they cut in that causes the numbness.

you have to think that its pretty much just scar tissue now right? you will probably gain more feeling as the scar itself heals and shrinks but from what i've been told you pretty much won't feel, or look the same in that area ever again... my dr was very blunt and basically told me to give up hope... lol i actually have a question for you, you said that if you stretched to far you'd feel it pulling, my son is 6 mths old and mine still pulls if i move wrong, will that ever stop??

well i had a c section with my daughter jada in 2008 and i am all to familiar with that feeling of numbness it is now 2011 and i don't feel it anymore all i can say it takes time for it to go away but if you are concerned you could go to your doctor just to be on the safe side

Sometimes that numbness do not ever go away. During the cutting a few of the nerves were probably severed and nerve damage is not repairable

I don't know about any one else, but I have had 2 c-sections and a hysterectomy and that area is completely numb. I truthfully was wondering the same thing. My first c-section was an emergency and the scar runs from my belly button down , but the numbness is just in the abdominal area. My boys were born in 1998 and 2002, so I'm know what you are going through.

it's kind of the toss of a coin whether the feeling comes back or not. When they cut through everything they damage and destroy nerves. Damaged nerves may regain some function, but not usually the same as they were before and destroyed ones never regenerate. Once you kill a nerve its gone for good. I've had 3 c-sections Apr 2007, Mar 2008 and Jul 2009. After my 2nd I had no feeling left in that area, however, after my 3rd one, they removed all the old scar tissue (basically the dead nerves etc) when they stapled me back up. I now have some sensation back around the scar, but not much. Everyone is different so it REALLY depends. :)

My doc said the numbness may or may not go away. They cut through nerves and they take some time to grow back. I had brain surgery in July 2007, I still have tingling in the side of my scalp and through my neck. that was 3 and a half years ago. It takes time. Good luck!

I had a c-section a year ago and I still have some numbness, not as bad as it was but still there. The nerves that get cut sometimes heal, but sometimes not. From what I understand the numbness can be permanant or it may get better with time. So really, it is just a waiting game. I don't have any pain, though I had sharp twinges til about 6 months after. If you you have never done a vaginal birth I strongly recommend it. I had 2 vaginal births and 1 c-section (i had no choice) Vaginal is definately easier to recover from, after the baby comes out it is all uphill as for as pain goes; it only gets better. With a c-section after the baby is born, ouch. Not to metion if you have other kids, it is much harder to take care of them after a c-section. It took me a long time, I was used to doing so much and went to not being able to do much or thinking I could do more than I actually could. I was back to almost 100% after 2 weeks with a vaginal, after 2 weeks with a c-section I was only about 50%.

I have had 2 c section one in 2001 and 1 on 2009. And yeah my numbness is still there. I think it is just from the scar tissue. I wouldn't say it bothers me or anything it is just kinda of strange feeling I don't even really notice it unless it touch the scar area or something. I am glad to know I am not the only one. Thanks

I had a csection in June of 08 with numbness intially. But as soon as I could tolerate any pressure on the incision and the stitches were dissovled I started scar massage. I don't have any numbness and the scar is completely smooth. To the touch you can't even tell I had a c-section.

I had my first c-section March of 2008 and was only slightly numb on my scar but all around had feeling. I could only feel a little bit but not fully. I just had a repeat c-section in January of this year. They made a second cut right next to my first and stapled them together. My first was hideous even after 6 years but now it looks normal...other then a scar of course. The new incision is thinner and much better looking. My first healed wrong bc I stated working out 2 weeks after my son was born. It looked like a frown and was sunken in the middle. Now its all straight and not sunken. I have numbness on my scar and maybe half a fingers width on either side. It doesn't bother me at all and I wouldnt mind if my bf touched it at all. I hated how it itched terribly after my son ...not so much this time tho

They do not cut you in 2 different places. I have had 3 csections and each one was on the same cut. As for the numbness, it does tend to subside but doesnt go away completly.

I have had two C-sections. My first daughter is now 7 and she was 5 by the time I had my second C-section and I was still numb. You eventually gain SOME sensation back. But for me it has never gone back to normal sensation...Now my youngest is two and if I pinch there I can feel a slight twinge but nothing more lol... My assumption, it never goes back to normal...

I had 2 c-section the first in June 2008 and then the next Oct 2009. Between the 2 c-sections i have to say that it stayed numb but that's mainly because i got pregnant with baby 2 when my first was 8 months so i didn't give enough time for my body to heal. Now it's been 16 months since my last c-section and it's really a lot better maybe just a little numb. I've ask my doctor and she said that it would alyways be a little numb that the nerves might not all heal properly.

I'm really surprised, I've never heard of this before! I had a scheduled c-section June 2008 (breech). My second was a VBAC - I highly suggest going that route if it's an option for you. But I never had any numbness from the c-section. Even for months after I had my c-section it was tender - if I leaned against the counter while washing dishes it felt sore. My first two are 15 months apart and when I was pregnant with my second one the incision site always felt sore. My pants and underwear would make it feel uncomfortable. I'm 29 weeks with # 3, and haven't noticed any discomfort with the incision.
