How do you know when it is the right time for your kid to move up to a toddler bed... I don't want to change anything if he isn't ready?

My oldest son was asking for a big boy bed at 15 months old so we put a toddler bed in his room and let him sleep in it. My youngest son was not sleeping all night long until he was 13 months old I did not feel safe moving him to a toddler bed until he was 18 months old when I knew he was going to sleep all night long. My boys are now 2 and 3 and they both sleep all night long in a toddler bed. I know a woman who has a 3 year old that is still in a crib. It's all about you, and your son. When you are ready and you feel that he is safe all night long.

My kids are 15 months apart, so I put my daughter in a toddler bed at 14 months, so she could get used to it before her brother would take over with the crib. She loved it and never had a problem.

I wouldn't try a toddler bed until your son is able to climb out of the crib, because then it's a safety issue. Our son didn't try to climb out until right after he turned 2. Then we went straight to a full sized bed with side rails. He turned 3 last month and now we don't even use the side rails anymore. If he's sleeping just fine, leave him in the crib for as long as you can. Good luck!

my daughter is almost 11 months and she figured out how to climb out of her crib about a week ago. we dropped the mattress to the lowest setting and plan on converting her crib to the toddler bed as soon as she starts climbing back out.
a few friends have older kids and one switched her son to a toddler bed when he was about 18 months when they bought a house. Another friend tried everything to keep her daughter in her crib, including the mesh tent attachment, the her daughter learned to unzip from the inside. she finally got her a toddler bed a few months before she turned 3.
i would say leave your son in his crib until he starts climbing out an a regular basis. And once you get him a toddler bed make sure he can't get out of his room and nothing in his room could hurt him.

how old is he? I changed my daughter when she was 16 months. I decided to change her over because she was trying to climb out of her crib and I didnt want her to fall and get hurt. You know your son so use your best judgement...
