I was using training toothpaste (floride free) for my son until he was about 18 months. Using a floride toothpaste varies on where you live. Because I live in a big city (vancouver BC) we have nothing in our water, so when I took my son for his 1st dentist appointment (at 18 months) the dentist said I should be using floride because its not in the water. He also said its ok for them to swallow small amounts. And he is a specialist in pediatric dentistry so I fully trust him.
So my best advice would to make an appointment or even call the dentist in your area to see what they think about toothpaste.

Any fluoride free toothpaste is fine. It is fluoride free so you don't have to worry about swallowing it.

It is recommended to hold off using toothpaste until your child can spit it out...swallowing it is not a good thing for anyone (on a large scale) so until your child is able to empty their mouth into the sink, just use water...if they can spit, just go for the "My first toothpaste". The one we use here in Aus is a Colgate one.

We also really like the gerber toothpaste in our house, we also use Oregel's Training Toothpaste with Little Bear on it :) Both are flouride free, not fans of flouride in this household! Depending on the toothpaste you can start using at 3-5 mos I believe, some are even gum cleaners, and usually go for 3-5 dollars.

I've been using Gerber toddler toothpaste for my daughter since she was 8 months hold. It's fluoride free. It's a little pricier (~5$ a tube) BUT it comes with a toothbrush, so whenever you need a new tube you replace the brush. Which is helpful because you're supposed to replace them every 2-3 months anyway.

I use the Orajel brand toddler toothpaste. It is fluoride free and it is fruit flavoured. It goes for around $3 a tube at any store really. I started using just a pea sized amount on my boys when they were around 6 months.

I have used my first toothpaste, I think it is colgate since my daughter was 12 months. It says on the packet that it's ok for babies 1 and up.

It's made by macleans, but i just looked at the packet and it's Colgate's My First Toothpaste with low fluride. The one you use sounds good. Is there a certain age to use it and what's the cost of it. Cheers Amy
