Hi, I'm just concerned with the amount of time my 5 month old spends standing. She'll put her hands in front of her and pull hher head off the ground so that I can pull her up but then instead of sitting down, she pulls herself to a stand. I'm just concerned that this could affect the development of her legs. She's been doing this since she was 3 months old, and now if you don't let her stand she will take a fit! She can even hold herself up without help if she holds on to something! Anyone have any advice or opinions?

Thank you ladies! I feel much better about it now. It just seems to me that she's in such a rush to grow up, and I guess I would like her to need my help getting around for a little longer! Once they get mobile, it's not the same! Anyways, thanks again!

if she is the one doing it herself, then let her be. when she gets tired, she'll lay down or sit down. some kids just don't like sitting (just like some kids don't crawl). as long as you're not the one stimulating her to do it, but she is the one doing it, she'll be fine. standing up is a big deal for a kid, and none of them do it until they're ready. if she did it herself, it means that she was ready.
i was one of those kids that refused to sit down, i stood up and started walking at 6 months 20 days. i never had any back problems or joint disorders. hope this helps, good luck!

ok i'm glad you asked about this cuz my 3 month old is doing the same thing! she throws an awful fit if you try and make her sit..she can't even sit by herself yet...but she wants to stand....all the time. the little johnny jumper is her best friend she grabs for it if we walk by it she stands in my lap she stands on the floor .She needs help to stand but she's not happy sitting and like I said she still can't even really do that. she even tries to put one foot in front of the other and walk up my belly and chest and i have to say she's pretty good at it....I know she will develope her muscles one way or another i'm just wondering if she's getting ahead of herself. I dont want her to grow up too fast and I certainly want to see her hold herself sitting

My daughter was the same way. I told this to my doctors and to a family friend who was a pediatrian too, they both said that her standing will not hurt her but will allow her to develope the strength in her legs faster. You might have a fast learning, mobile baby soon. My daughter started to crawl at 5 month and started walking at nine months. I do not believe you should stifle her actions, as long as she is happy, healthy and is not in any pain, it is alright. Just be prepared for a crawling/walking baby in a few months. Do not be surprised! Hope this helps.

try putting her in one of those bumbo chairs it was the only way i got my son to sit he as well loved to be standing but the chair seem to be very comfortable for him and got him use to sitting, and sometimes i just let him take a fit for 5 or so minutes but comforting him so he knew it was ok he now sits on the floor without trying to stand as much. hope this helps!
