I just relocated from California to South Carolina and my 6 month old has never experienced a thunderstorm until last night. She was terrified... shaking and crying. I held her close and rocked her all night. She didnt fall asleep til 2am. Its supposed to storm again tonight, and I dont want her to go through the same thing being so scared. Any suggestions?

hm... my main suggestion is that if the storming starts before she goes to bed at night let her watch it with you. Make positive sounds like 'ooo' and 'ahh' while pointing at the rain and lightning and continue to smile and try not to jump yourself when the thunder happens. I don't have any suggestions for if it starts after she goes to bed though. We've lived on the east coast my entire life and thunderstorms will still wake me up at night (and my husband is a bit afraid of them himself and he's been on this coast his whole life as well). It's not something that you can get super used to and sleep through all the time but hopefully you can help make it less scary if she experiences it during the daytime with you. *hugs* It still wakes my daughter up sometimes and she'll cry from them if they're really loud. I do have a sound machine and a fan running in her room to help block out outside noise that may help drown out some of the storm (if you decide to use a fan make sure it's a loud one, most of the ones they sell are super quiet lol).
