my baby won't eat with a spoon or our food

my 10 month old son still takes baby food through the bottle. when i tried to give him finger foods he just gaggled and choked on even a small piece like the head of a needle. can anyone pls suggest something? thanks

I 100% agree with Fiona's post, babies nearly always choke on their first solids but with persistance, it will get better. Your baby definately needs to learn how to eat solids now being 10 months old and the foods Fiona suggested are perfect. Stick with the pureees until he is comfortable with them and go from there. Good luck and if you are still having trouble after a few weeks of purees, maybe talk to a child health nurse or doctor to get some advice. Good luck

you shouldn't put any food into his bottle, only milk. make puree's from banana without lumps to start, then once he is comfortable eating that mash the banana with a fork instead of pureeing it so it has some small lumps. banana is a good first food because it is soft, sweet and has lots of nutritional value. you can also try the same thing with mashed potatoes and other soft fruits and veggies. liquidize some pear and try that. try giving him some bread with out the crusts to chew on. keep trying, once he has the hang of pureed food, start introducing some lumps into it. he needs to learn how to swallow it, give him little bits on the spoon first then build up to bigger spoonfuls. i hope this helps
