Hi moms! Can u give an advise on how I can get my 7 year old son to eat well. I feel that he's not growing well because he has poor appetite. All he wants to eat is fried chicken! It's very difficult to make him stay and eat at the table too....I tried different kinds of vitamin supplements but nothing worked. I'm really getting confused...

My son has SPD and will only eat certain foods. It is a very short list. I sneak extra veggies into his food using powdered vegtables (Miracle Greens) and my son also drinks ensure and pediasure instead of juice or soda (ensure has the same ingredients and supplements as pediasure for half the price, as does carnation instant breakfast. Go on and check it out.). Although my son is small for his age, he is a full six inches taller than my brother or I were at that age, a fact I know because my mom kept such brilliant records. I have also worked with specialists in regards to his issues. I continue to offer him other foods and he occasionally tries them. I vary his meals from day to day and try to think up creative way to serve him healthy foods. I also make sure he takes his fllintstones everyday. If his weight drops below the 20th percentile, I will enroll him in the feeding clinic at Kennedy Krueger. Otherwise, I keep offering him new foods to try without any pressure and trust his body to tell him when he needs food. As for dinner time, you may want to allow him to bring a small toy and to play quietly or feed him separate.

Hi, When my daughter Eboni gets dark tired patches under her eyes it's a sign of low iron, a few doses of multi-vitamin with iron sure boosts her appetite! On the other hand, my daughter Mia ate nothing but sausages with peanut butter for about a month when she was younger! Keep offering other foods, but it is probably a phase and it won't be long before he can't stand chicken! I think that as long as they're healthy and happy everything else will follow. Best of luck. Elissa.

Good question Maja, I know if I give my son a glass of milk before hes eating about half his plate he will chug it down and eat less food. Try giving him no drink or water instead, but not to much just enough to keep his thirst satisfied.  Also, no seconds on anything until he makes a "happy plate". It sounds cruel but if he ends up leaving the table hungry let him, hes not going to starve himself, but he will see how far he can push you, so stay strong and youll do great.

Hi Maja! Actually I do, because he won't eat without the sweet drink as well. I'm encouraging him to drink more water though.

Do you give him something sweet to drink? Sometimes they drink it too much, and don't feel hungry
