I've had eczima all my life...Oatmeal baths work. It's mostly about trial and error. It could be anything that makes it worse than it should be. I know what sets mine off is certain laundry detergents or soaps. The sunshine helps calm it also. Good luck!

Hi!

When I was a baby and a young child, I had really bad eczema, especially in summer when I used to get all hot. My parents tried all the cortizone creams, steroid creams, etc. to no avail. Then one holiday we went to the beach. My eczema stung like crazy, but the next day it was slightly better (could have been the salt water??). But the BEST lotion we found, was 100% natural olive oil. Cleared my eczema up straight away.

My daughter had it really bad when she was a baby. It mostly was because of a dairy allergy. If you are nursing, skip ALL dairy. If formula go to non soy, non dairy kind. I know they do make some that is made from dairy but altered so an allergic baby can have it. Try Aquaphor by Eucerin. Amazing stuff!!!

Emu oil. Put it on after the bath or once a day. It totally healed my son in 1 bottle. It was the only thing that worked. You can get it at any vitamin or health food store.

Hi, My daughter has just gone through the same thing over the past 4 months,her eczema had covered over 80% of her body, i changed my laundry powder to AMOLIN sensitive, only dressed her in cotton clothes and spent thousands of dollars on cremes and lotions and potions...

Finally i gave in and sent her to a dermatoligist and i found out that my daughter had Psoriasis and eczema. I have been wrapping her in what they call wet bandages three times a day which consists of applying the steroid creme, then emulsifing ointment then a wet tubular bandage followed by a dry bandage....

It has been time consumming but it has worked and in four days i could see a 50% improvement... It has been now a month since i started this treatment and she has cleared up now i would say 90% she still has some little marks from where she had been scratching but that will fade with time..

my advice to you is GO TO A DERMATOLIGIST please i went to every doctor i could and then finally got sick of me not treating to problem, i saw the dermatoligist who specialises in pediatrics... I had to take my daughter to hospital for 4 days for extencive treatment but it worked....

Your case may not be the same and i know it can be pricey but its worth it

I have 2 kids with eczema also; I kept them moisturized with eucerin and changed laundry detergent to arm & hammer detergent. Also try to stay away from the ltions with alcohol in them b/c it only dries them out even more and stay away from items with fragance. I tried the baby eczema cream on my nephew and that worked for him. with her skin peeling, you may want to also try giving her oatmeal baths. Aveeno has something out like that or you can just do it the old fashion way.

My son had it when he was a newborn too (he's 10 months old now and its gone). I used and still use Aveeno Baby body wash and lotion(fragrance free), even now if I use something else he breaks out in like a rash. Also when his skin would get bad when he was younger his grandfather put ' Vasaline Intensive care renewal lotion' on him. It unexpectedly took it away.

Don't use anything with alcohol in it. Eucerin worked great for my son, but that was 7 years ago so I'm sure they might have something better now.

My son had the same problems when he was 5 months old it just came from nowhere. The only thing that worked for him was the Eucerin line of products. He has gotten better has he has gotten older. We now are able to use Aveeno’s products with no problems. We also used Dreft to wash everything in and you can try a soy based formula too.

What ru using at the moment?

Im not sure where u live but im in the uk and both mine have it, my sons was awful at one point all over his face and neck. They have been prescribed Epaderm and its fantastic. Can be used as a cream, in the bath water and instead of soap. The texture of it is horrible, its like vaseline but it really does work if you continue to use it every day. Until we used this we had tries all sorts, double base, diprobase, aqueous, oilatum, hydrocortisone, betnovate. Apparantly it is now recommended by dermatologists. Hope this helps

My daughter also has eczema but it isn't that bad. I have her on soy formula for several reasons but it seems to keep her from breaking out real bad. I have read that dairy is bad for people with eczema. Also, the Dr's gave me Vani Cream for her face when she breaks out and Hyrdocortisone cream for the rest of her break outs. I also found this baby wash that is Gentle Naturals Eczema Baby Wash. You are suppose to put it in the bath water... I haven't' tired it yet though. Also try changing the detergent you are using for her. I found out that Dreft causes my daughter to break out. I now use All Plain and Simple (I think that is what it is called), anyways it comes in a white bottle and it has no dyes or perfumes in it. I spent about 3 months trying to figure out what worked for my daughter and all this helped control her breakouts. Oh and I used for a while Shaklee laundry detergent... It is great but I can't have it ordered and sent to my address so I tried other stuff.

there is a medicine you actually get by prescription. it's a complicaited word and spelling so i won't try...but my son is 2 yrs 7 mos and he's had it since he was 3 mos old. i tried all kinds of creams, lotions, etc. i talked with the doctor about it and got the prescription for ezcema. also, it helps if you keep them cool (layer the clothes but not TOO much), hydrated, and lukewarm (NEVER hot) baths. heat and sweating will make it worse. i was also told by the doctor that eucerin cream works very good and stand by that because it's one of the many i tried and got any results with...if you haven't already i would talk to the doctor about something prescription if it is as bad as your describe. my sons was the same way and i brought it up every time we went until she prescribed something for him because nothing else was working.

My son had this too. It was terrible. He would scatch himself raw. We finally found him some relief by giving him oatmeal baths, limiting baths to every other day, and using aveeno products to mosturize.

Have you tried Aquaphor? My kids have it bad too and it works better than regular lotion. Have you talked to her doctor? Triamcinalone works very well with the aquaphor mixed.

We had to change laundy detergents to scents or anything even the baby ones would trigger koopers break outs. Also the aveno body wash worked best for us. he had it so bad as a toddler in the night would itch so bad he would wake the next morning bleeding. So we took him to the dermitoligst and got a stonger cream. And now at almost 7 he has pretty much outgrown it but when the weather changes he has mild outbreaks. Good luck

i'd say use eucerin cream... it's not lotion it's really thick and it will coat her skin. I use it on myself because i too also have eczima! good luck!

try using johnsons lotion...as she gets older switch to dove soaps...i was also told that you dont have to use soap all the time when washing babies..only if they are really dirty...that helps with it too

my daugter also has this problem. i statred using a milk bath wash in her bath instead of baby soap's. i just put it in the bath like bubble bath. and started washing her clothes in liquid detergent which doesn't stick to the clothes as much as powder's do. and this seemed to help.

My son had the same problem. The doctor finally gave me a prescription for a stronger hydrocortizone byrate (i think that is how you spell it) cream that you cannot get over the counter. It worked immediately! Talk to your doctor as soon as you can and tell them you are DONE trying over the counter treatments as it is not working. Good luck!

My son had it on his face and at the first appointment the Dr told me to try over the counter lotions or ointments, then 2 months later I took him back because it wasn't working so he gave me a prescription...it's just like .5% more hydrocortizone than the stuff off the shelf, so it's not like it's some powerful scary thing you are putting on your baby. It cleared right up! He also gets diaper rash really bad, really fast...like, from one diaper to the next it will just appear and be really bad. It works for that too. Maybe ask the doc if there is any ointment he can prescribe that's just a bit stronger than the stuff off the shelf.

I used Aveeno baby lotionon my son's eczema, but his was not that bad. The Dr's where I work give Aquphor, Eucerin, cream, lotion and body wash samples to the patients who have eczema, I belive she is too young for steroid creams. Use plain, scent free detergent , lotion , others may irritate the skin. Good luck , things will eventually get better. :)

My son had this problem. They tried putting him on Nutramagin (I can't remember how to spell that formula) but he wouldn't take it, and it smelled like dirty socks. I use Aveeno NON FRAGRANCE lotion on him, and it helps a little. After a couple months when it wouldn't go away they tested him for food allergies. He was allergic to peanuts. . . And that was helping to inflame his eczema. I also use 2.5% hydrocortizone ointment on the really nasty parts to get them to go down. I have to use it very sparingly though because too much can damage skin.

He was so bad at 3-4 months that his face had scabs, and puss because he couldn't stop scratching it. My poor little boy had dry blood all of the time on his scratch marks on his face, and on his cheeks where they scabbed and pussed they were worried about permanent scaring.

Things worked out better when we discovered his peanut allergy. (I had eaten peanuts and breast fed him. They live in your system for 6 days, and then in his for 6 more, so thats why it was there for so long without going away.)

Have you asked your doctor about maybe a medicated ointment that she/he could prescribe? My daughter has it, so do I. She has a medicated ointment from the doctor and its gone in less than a week. Also, lotions sometimes aren't enough for moisture. Try baby oil. It may help. But as always double check any advice with your child's doctor. Good luck and hope we all helped.

So does my son, he is 7 now with hardley any problems. When he was very young, I talk to his pediatrician about it, he prescribed an infants form of fish oil supplements, Cleared it up in about a week. Unfortunately he was about 6 months old. Your daughter may be too young.

You know my son had it I didnt know where it was coming from I used the detergent Dreft and was washing everything he had with that. So then what i did was change that it helped
then what I used on his skin was the Eucerin Cream it was way better after that and until now that is what i use on him and thank god to this day it has worked. Good Luck hope it works for you.

I had such a hard time with my daughter when she was born. I have a few tips for you. Bath her in Aveeno oatmeal bath. This works well. Bath her in water that is on the cooler side. If your baby is too warm her skin will get irritated, it's best to dress her in layers. The easiest way I found to tell if my baby was too hot or cold was to feel their nose. If its warm, they aren't cold. I was told by my in-laws that my daughter was cold and they'd say 'where's her socks? etc.'' she needs to be cool. It is very important for her skin.



Also, when my daughter had really bad skin I would bath her in 'doak oil'. This stuff smells horrible but it really works well! You can find it at any pharmacy usually.



Another big problem we found was that my daughter was allergic to coconut oil, this is found in all formulas. We had to put her on a homemade formula consisting of half sterilized water, half soy milk some multivitamins and corn syrup. I wouldn't reccommend this unless you speak to your pediatrician first.



Another tip is when you put on lotion (i used aveeno) or even a perscribed cortazone cream put vaseline over top. This will act as a barrier and help tremendously.

My son had really bad skin problems too. One thing I read is that what you are eating if you're breastfeeding may be causing the skin problems. Milk and dairy products in particular. I have been eating lots of fruits, grains, and vegetables... and smaller amounts of cheese.
Also Cetaphil cream (not lotion) has done wonders for the boy. I slather it one every time I change a diaper. It's become routine now and Ewan gets excited for his little mini massage.
Babies have such sensitive skin and everything they are exposed to is new. So keep that in mind when you notice flare ups. Other things you can do is limit who holds her... she may have allergic reactions to their detergent, perfume, soap, lotion, etc. Make sure you are using Free&Clear types of detergent for all of your clothes, but still wash baby clothes separate. Use the same unscented soaps and lotions you put on baby for yourself. Dish soap, cleaning supplies, hand soap... all of these things may be a catalyst to skin reactions.
Give your baby some extra love... it's hard to see your baby in such discomfort. She needs the cuddles as much as you do!

oh no! the poor little girl! I know what it's like, I have psoriasis myself. Which is very similar, just a little worse than excema. Most of the other posts are right, don't use any products with fragrance, sensitive skin laundry detergent, etc. Also, sunlight helps. Of course put some sunscreen on her as usual, and take her outside for a bit on sunny days. Steroidal creams do work for most people, but I think that she is far to young for that, you would have to ask her pediatrician. there isn't a whole lot that you can do, it is very hard to get rid of. I would just concentrate on controlling it to make her more comfortable. Hope I have been some help. Good luck!

My youngest son had really bad eczema. The doctors were afraid it was going to scar it had gotten so bad. After all the stupid creams and changing detergents and seeing 4 different doctors, I stopped using all those eczema creams, steroid creams, lotions, dreft detergent, etc... and only applied hydrocorizone 1% cream 3x a day to the really bad areas, All Free & Clear Detergent, and a very small dose of benadryl the dr had prescribed for itching as needed. He is almost 2 years old now, and there has been no more really bad outbreaks since he was about 9 months old. Now when he gets the dry itchy skin, I just grab any Huggies Lotion and rub him down. Johnsons really irritated his skin... but all babies are different... I hope this helps & I hope your lil one grows outa it!! :o)

Go to Walmart or Target and look for BABY ESZEMA CREAM AND BATH WASH. I had that was I was a kid and grew out of it. Then when I got pregnant both times I got patches on me and then they went away. Anyways, both my babies got it too. My doc said there was nothing he could really prescribe so I did my own research at stores. I found this tube of really thick ointment-like cream especially designed for babies. Its by the makers of Orajel, I know it sounds weird, but its called baby eczema cream and it works wonders! I found that at Walmart and used it on both my babies and immediately it was GONE!

i don't know if ur breastfeeding or not butif ur using formula that could be it she might be allergic a girl i worked with he son had eczema bad and her doctor put him on alimentum, cause ha had an allegry to the protein in cow's milk, and he was able to be switched over to milk at 1yr with no problems the only thing that sucks is that kind of formula is really expensive

both of my kid have it my little girl was 2 week old when it start i found out that if u bath ever other day and olny put soap on there hair not on there body realy not where it is and use lotion on them 2 times a day help my kid but i had to take my kids back and for to the doc for a good month befor iwe found lotion and a bath thing set up to help we even went to a skinm doc..

I understand what you are going through. Both of my children had eczima as infants and what I finally found that did the trick was Eucerin Calming Cream. It worked in like less then a week. Try it and let me know how it turns out.

Eczema is a sign of food allergies. She is probably allergic to milk or is Lactose-intolerant...to help it you'll probably have to get special formula also there is this diaper cream called triple paste and they make an eczema cream. Hope this helps!

ask your pediatrician about CUTIVATE LOTION... it's a stroid cream and it works WONDERS... my daughter was born with eczema and i have used everything you could think of until i met a mom at a park and she told me her daughter had it what sounded like worse than my daughter, and she told me about the CUTIVATE... so i made an appointment and had the doctor give me samples of CUTIVATE and VOILA it worked... she is 7 now and we have it under control... i always have the cutivate on hand just in case... this stuff works like magic... good luck and keep us posted...

Bathe her as little as possible and get your hands on some blue chamomile oil. You may be able to order it through your local natural foods store or get it through an herbalist in town. Mix 5 drops in a handful of PURE cocoa butter and rub anywhere on body. Avoid getting into eyes and mouth.

Honestly though, do you think your doc may have misdiagnosed? Your description sounds more like psoriasis.

My doctor told us to use Dove soap and put epsom salt in her bath water,and use aveeno lotion it worked for us. We use te epsom salt every other bath it seems to work the best. Good Luck!

Hello! My son has it too! Pretty bad all over his legs. He also scratchs and makes it worse. He's 16 months and it's hard to stop him from scratching when he wants too! The doctors gave me the run around. On third visit they gave him strong cream Elecom and that stopped it. We never changed detergent, lotions, or anything. I stopped putting sunscreen on him. At least they are suppose to clear up by age 2!!!

I know it's kind of wierd, but my younger brother had exzima really bad and my Mom put crisco shortening on it. It worked!! You might want to check with your Dr. first because this was about 14 years ago but it worked. Poor thing :(
