My 3 yr old won't feed himself in school this been going on for couple of months when his teacher feed him he eat. But at home he feed himself I don't feed him. Im confuse

She is 9 1/2 months and still breast fed. The only thing she can eat by herself are crackers. She hasn't quite figured out that she can pick up small things ie. cheerios and do more than play with them. It was better yesterday and today with baby food so maybe she's getting over this phase.

Children go through growth sperts where they will eat all the time and then a day after not want to eat at all. My three year old hasn't really been eating for about a month but is still gaining weight. I'm not worried about it. Maybe she just doesn't like sitting down and being fed. If she is over a year I would let her try to feed herself. She may just be testing out her independence. My baby was 13 months and I let him feed himself once and I never was able to do it again. Like I said if she is gaining weight do not worry about it.

just make sure your offering food before milk and keep trying! as long as shes not having too many milk feeds during the day she will get there. mine is 13 months and wont eat properly and she has only just stoped spoon feeding about 6 weeks ago she wont open her mouth and turns her head away. hope it gets easier soon

I'm having the same problem with my 7 1/2 month old, she ate great for a while, but lately won't do anything but nurse. i got some of those freeze dried yogurt gerber things and just put one in her mouth if i can't get her to eat the baby food, that way she's at least getting some substance. She seems to like it, and they just melt in her mouth. Although getting her to open her mouth is a bit of a challenge...

My daughter is a very finicky eater. She always has been. Some days are better than others. I, too, was worried about it and I asked the doctor what to do. He said not to worry about it. She won't starve herself. As long the child is still drinking and you give he vitamins, the diet is just secondary. Don't worry about it.

I have noticed similar eating habits with my 2 year old, he will go for a few weeks at a time where he will eat really well and not turn his nose up at anything and the all of a sudden he won't eat anything. Usually it only lasts for about a week or two and I just keep him on his vitamin/mineral supplement (its in a juice mix form with cherry flavor - all natural and vegan of course) so I know at least he is getting his required amount of vitamins. I have found that it's usually due to either teething or a growth spurt and he always comes around. If your problem lasts for longer than a couple of weeks I would be asking your doctor to investigate a little further to see if there are underlying issues. Good luck!

My 22 month old is going through it now. He won't even eat his favorite foods anymore. But he still drinks his milk and water, so the doctor said to keep pushing water and milk on him and keep offering him food. He'll eat when he's hungry. Well in the past that's what I did and what I'm doing now but yeah it's a little scary because he isn't even eating his favorite foods anymore.

Hi Stephanie,

My son has just turned 3, and he used to be a fantastic eater up until he turned 2 and a half. He refuses to eat anything, except toast which he now wont eat. I have him back on formula to keep him nurished, but he just will not eat anything. His development is also very good, and growing fine.

Although at your daughters age my health nurse told me that when the child has a growth spurt they will generally go off their food for a while. I hope this has somehow helped. And i also hope my son starts eating soon as well!

Yea this happened with our son too a couple times. Our doctor said it was normal because he's growing and his eating habits can change frequently. I was worried too because he at a lot at one point then didn't really want much. I thought something might have been wrong with him, but he definitely got back to eating anything and everything soon enough.
