My daughter wants to use her middle name as her primary name.

My daughter wants to be called by her middle name instead of her first name, which really isnt a problem for me and I dont mind, but I forget to call her by it all the time. I know alot of people use their middle names instead of first name, but I dont know how to submerge it into our lives, if you know what I mean. As in having the school call her Cheyenne instead of Raven, and there not be any confusion with records, etc, etc... and just getting use to calling her Cheyenne instead all together.



Has any other mother gone through this? What were your experiences and do you have any recommends?

i went with my middle name when i was 11-12 years old at a new school. my dad suggested it when i moved in wth him. he put down on enrollment that my preffered name was jade on the first day of school they asked me if i preffered melissa or jade and i said jade. my friends called me this then i moved back to mums and back to my old school in year 7. at high school lots of kids went to the same school as me who knew me as jade, those girls still call me jade to this day.

I have always used my middle name only. It's not that big of a deal. She can tell the teacher to call her by her middle name. My name is Julia Ava and every one calls me Ava and always have. On the first day of school I always corrected the teacher during roll and let her know. THen she just called me Ava and so did everybody else. I wrote Ava on my papers, she knew who it was.

Yeah, my little brother went through a phase when he was little in which he wanted to be called by his. It may be a phase, or, like several of my friends, it may become permanent. They have no problem with it. When we were in high school, the teachers would get the hang of it. Funnily enough, some people at our school didn't even know and to this day, don't know their first names.

The schools here have an option of preferred name for children. You could inform her teacher that this is her wish and that you would like them to respect this. As to remembering yourself, it will take time. Especially if Cheyenne keeps correcting you when you call her Raven. I gave my daughter a middle name because I always felt left out because I didn't have the option.

Yeah, I wouldnt really change her name legally... but I know when I was in college, that people would tell the professors that they go by.. such and such. I am just wondering how that will work in school? Everyone already knows her by Raven, and I guess I can tell the teacher to put in parenthesis that she goes by Cheyenne in the grade book or something. It seems like it will be a big adjustment, but I know so many people who go by middle names instead. My bf does, and several co-workers too.

I think call her what she wants to be called.

Maybe get her to tell people/teachers she wants to be called Cheyenne instead of Raven, so you don't have to officially change any records. So it is more of a nickname than a her real name. It is probably just a phase, like wanting to be called superman for a month or something, my friends boy at the age of 6 would only be called FishSpeaker or something silly like that.
