When my daughter went for her 2 yr check up she was 25 lbs. When i had her at the dr a few weeks ago she was still 25 lbs. Wic office says shes borderline being underweight and that i need t help her gain some, but i dont know wat to do. Dr said to try putting butter on all her stuff. Well she'll eat butter straight off the stick.. I trid everything the dr suggested but nothing works. her ather and i used to be the same way, her dads tall and skinny and before i had her i couldbnt get past 118 but it worries me with her. Any suggestions?

My son is now almost 7 and he's holding 40lbs. That's not even 50% for a 4-year-old. He's ALWAYS been small, in the 0%ile. He was the same size and didn't grow for at least 2 years. He's starting to grow now. As long as she is healthy, then I wouldn't worry too much. Pediasure or even carnation breakfast drinks (MUCH cheaper) are good for supplementing. Some kids are just small and they all grow at their own pace. Good luck!

Ask yoru pediatrician for a referral to a dietician! They can help you work HEALTHY calories into your families diets. Some children are just skinnier than others, and that is a fact. But if your pediatrician is concerned, (such as your child is deviating from their normal growth chart line) then you should be concerned.

My son is 28lbs and 3.5 years old. He's always been on the bottom of the chart, so it was not a concern at all. I was only 103lbs when I got pregnant with him and his daddy was only 135lbs... so I expect to have small children.

My daughter LOST weight between 9-12 months so our doctor recommended pediasure. She's been on it for several months and is finally back to her 9 month weight (at 16 months, she weighs 18lbs). So, you might try it, but I'd get your doctor's advice first. Another thing you might want to check is her thyroid levels. My daughters came back fine, but we did discover that she was anemic, so she's currently on a prescription iron too.

Good luck!

Try adding foods like chopped meat, nuts, beans, cheese, or wheat germ into your recipes to add calories. Olives and avocado's are a great way to gain healthy weight. You can puree them in food and smoothies. Try geting whole milk yogurt instead of low fat/no fat.

I don't recomend adding butter/margarine because most of them contain unhealthy fats.

So she's 3 years old and 25 lbs? Does she eat well? I really don't think that I'd start getting her to eat butter on everything because that can cause other problems down the road. My daughter is 3 1/2 and weighs 28 lbs and is perfectly healthy. Nuts, peanut butter, bananas, avacados, and some yogurts are healthy options that can have a lot of calories per serving and fruit/yougurt smoothies make a really good snack. You don't want to teach her bad eating habits at this age. Good luck!

A friends daughter had this issue and they had her drinking pediasure at least once, sometimes twice a day as well as her normal diet since it apparently has a high calorie count and a lot of trace vitamins and such. It helped but it was really hard to cut it back once they didn't need it anymore.
