My daughter is all about spongebob and i HATE spongebob !! I was in the living room with her the other day watching it and i notice some of the things they say "stupid" "idiot" "moron" and "dumb" when i heard them say that i turned it off. My daughter threw the biggest fit I told her that mommy wasnt gonna let her watch this filth the words that comes out of there mouths are bad!! I dont normally let her watch spongebob because i dont approve of it for her age group. She usually watches mickey mouse club house agent oso imagination movers dora and bob the builder. I just found out that my sister lets my daughter watch spongebob and thats how she became a spongebob freak.. anyways....My daughter has picked up the word Stupid and idiot (my daughter will be 2 on the 30th of this month) I was upset when she called me stupid and told me that i was an idiot. i told her that she cant be saying thos words because its bad ! So i made her stop watching it. come to find out my boyfriend would let her watch it when i wasnt home and when i found out i was upset about it. now my daughter calls people stupid and idiots and she gets in trouble for it. She has learned thos words from the show spongebob. I understand that she will eventually learn thos words when she gets older but at the age of almost 2 she is calling people stupid and idiots ? I know for a fact she didnt learn thos words from me my boyfriend or from my family because we dont use words like that infront of the children. One of my friends told me that i was over reacting and that i should let her watch spongebob i told her NO because i will NOT have my child learing thos nasty words. I dont talk like that in front of her and ill be damned if a cartoon is gonna teach my child how to call someone stupid or an idiot.. Do you let your child/children watch spongebob ? Has your child/children picked up these kind of words from watching this show ?

My son watches SpongeBob, but then he is 16 years old. When my kids were 2, we watched Barney, Sesame Street, Aurora's Castle, Bob the Builder, and Blue's Clues. Otherwise we watched video tapes, including the "There Goes..." series (There Goes a Police Car, There Goes a Helicopter, and so on), Eric Carle's Very Hungry Caterpillar, and the Disney singalong tapes.

I really dislike SpongeBob and so I tend to leave the room when my son watches it, but at 16 he knows better (most of the time) than to call people by those names.

I don't think you are overreacting unless you are screaming at your sister and boyfriend about it. Personally I would simply figure out how to block the show on the TV(s) at your house, and ask anyone who watches your daughter to not let her watch the show because she is getting in trouble for using inappropriate language that she has learned from the show.

My kids picked up words like stupid, idiot and moron from the kids across the street and from public school. For the first few years the kids were in a Montessori school, and those words were never used.

The worst problem I had was the parents of my son's best friend let their son (age 3) watch R-rated scary movies with his big sisters (ages 16 and 18). A few times when my son was over there he was exposed to these movies. I found out because he had a terrible nightmare about a man in a white mask who was poking girls with a stick and making them bleed. I went over and told my neighbor that these movies were causing my son to have nightmares so could she please bring him back home or call me to come get him if they were going to watch anything beyond PG. She thought I was being a bit silly, but she did bring my son back home whenever they wanted to watch Halloween or Friday the 13th.

BTW we didn't say the words were "bad" but that they are mean, so that is why we don't say them.
