My toddler says no words?

My DD is 22 months and she does not say anything at all. She does not say mamma or papa. All she does say is Da and it is for everything. When I tell her "Look that's a flower, she'll say "Da". That is basically it. She is very smart, she knows where 5 body parts are when asked "where are they?". She also seems to be normal and understands what I tell her. I am very concerned though especially after doing tons of research and everyone scares u with Verbal Apraxia or even autism. No parent wants their child to go through that. What are your suggestions? Was your child a late talker? Should I be worried? I need some words of inspiration :-(

I'd talk to your daughter, but it's possible she's fine. My husband and I both didn't really talk until 2 (closer to 3 for me) so my son, though younger than your child, doesn't worry me when he only knows "Da". He can baby sign, though. You could try some signs to relieve both of you and get some communication going.

Hi Raquel, I was wondering what the update of your young one is?? I could write the same EXACT thing for my 21 month old and I too am scared that it is Apraxia. He uses Da for everything, but is very smart and social. I am hoping to get some words of encouragement from you and hope your young one is doing well:)))

when my son was 2 years old he would talk gibberish and nothing was clear at all. after taking him to an ear specialist i found out that his ear drums were full of fluid and everything he heard was like him hearing things under water. after that tubs were placed in his ears and his speech improved a little bit but not much. after a few months he was still having trouble talking and after taking him to ANOTHER specialist i found out he had PDD, a type of autisim. my son is now four and after alot of speech therapy and such..his speech has improved tremendously. hopefully this is not your case but i would look into getting her ears checked and go from there. no mother wants there child to have autisim but there is alot of help out there..good luck i wish you the best!!!!

My son is 17 months.... He has a few phrases that I have picked up on & figured out. Do you "baby talk" like in a baby voice to her? I have found that if I do that to my son he looks at me like I am crazy & he ignores me. I have also taught him a few sign language & I write some things down.
Try sign language, pictures of words, or even post cards. Keep your chin up she is just slow. I had Epilepsy & was slow in a few areas too but I turned out ok!!

My son is 28 months old and was a late talker to. I recommend taking your child to a speech pathologist. They will give you some one on one help with you and your child. Once I new more how to help my child and what be was looking for from me he started to pick up words left right and center. I started with everything in June and he already says words like power tools and cars. Every child developed different and looks for different prompts. The other thing you could try is sign language. It is using the speech part of the brain if the words aren't there. They might also suggest a hearing test do you know you child is hearing things right so they know what they should sound like.

Depending on where you are located they have certain programs for young children to get their speach tested. I'm in ontario canada and we have the early years center with a program called talk by two, if our babe's have trouble, little to no words we can go there and get free help and suggestions

I have a 28 months old and when he turned 2 he wasn't saying much but now he's talking wayyyy to much maybe you should ask you doc because for every milestone there are a certain amount of words they should know and use on the regular, also the speech therapist told me that they have to have a certain amounts of nouns and verbs b4 they can form sentences and start placing words in place also, they have a group at the office 4 children can come and interact with other children their age that also helps and also they will give a hearing test to make sure her hearing is fine because that will also stop the child from talking...... I wish u luck

It will be ok lots of kids dont talk much my son had a realy small vocabulary then overnight he just staeted talking lol, there are some things u can do first get her hearing checked that is a main reason why kids have dificalty speaking after that i used flash cards and would try to get him to repeat as best he could i was a game for him, if u put her face to face with u and say a word and get her to say it will she attempt it or does she just turn away some times kids if they cant say it perfect will refuse to say it at all. I took my son to a speach specilist and they may be able to give u a few more ideas also check her tonge is she tonge tied where her tonge is stuck to the bottom of her mouth. i hope this helps best wishes
