My daughter has a rash that flares up on her face. She is 6 1/2 months old and we have seen the pediatrician numerous times to get some answers. It is not baby acne which is common in newborns. She has been cultured for bacterial and fungal infections both negative. Thought she might also have an allergy to cows milk which transfers from me to her she via my breastmilk. I didn't have cow's milk products for weeks and it made no difference. Just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this and if anyone had a suggestion? Pediatrician is puzzled and thinks she will outgrow it by age 2....I want a better answer than that!

my son has had skin problems since he was about 6 weeks... mostly eczema as a result to allergies... he had sensitivities to dairy, soy, and seafood, so breast feeding was challenging. if its not bacteria, or fungus then the most you can do is try various creams to soothe it. he's 2 now and he's pretty much grown out of the skin issues but its also easier to figure out whats irritating him since foods are taken in on a more individual basis, and a little benadryl cream seems to work wonders

Burt's Bees Baby Bee is the best stuff ever! IDK if it would be your detergent. I would think that would be all over her body then, not just the face area.
Sunscreen might help too. I would get a rash like that on me and sunscreen cleared it up, but I had to KEEP using it or I'd get it again.
Also, maybe try washing her face with water only after every feeding and every morning when she wakes up. I see she uses a pacifier which can cause dampness around the mouth which could cause a rash.
I hope you get answers soon!!

I know that hormones is what causes baby acne but at the most it is supposed to last 4 months my daughter is almost 7 months thats why the doctor ruled baby acne out and because it doesn't look like baby acne. Thanks though I probably just need to be patient. As a mom I don't want anything to be wrong with her and I just want to fix it.

Thanks for all the advice/suggestions. Just to clarify the rash is not dry, pussy, or scaly it is just red bumps they usually are only around her mouth and cheeks sometimes eyes an forehead. They do not scab. We have seen two different pediatricians and they both ruled out eczema. She is exclusively breastfed, we use hypoallergenic laundry detergent, baby soap, lotion, etc. when the flare ups get really bad we use hydrocortizone cream (.1%) so that it doesn't get worse and get infected. I have also tried keeping a food diary to see if I could identify something in my diet she might be sensitive to???? Thats why we are so puzzled I feel like I have tried almost everything. I bought the california baby lotion as suggested by one of the moms and I hope that does something. Someone also suggested that it might be the stain pretreater (spray and wash) I didn't think about that. We certaintly use a lot of it. I usually double rinse when I use it but I think I might try cutting it out. Thanks for all the help if anything else comes to mind let me know I am definately open to suggestions...We are stumped! I do have a referall to the dermatologist just thought I would see all of your advice first. Thanks again.

my daughter had a rash all the sudden appear on her face at about 2 months old and I was freaking out but I went and looked it up online and it was eczema...so I was researching what different people were saying what they used and came across aveeno soothing relief lotion the next day the rash was gone!! the stuff it amazing, also you can use 0.5% Hydrocortisone cream which will help with it not irritating her and itching...hope this helps because it really really helped me and now my daughter has beautiful skin again..

Hi, my son had a rash on his cheek starting when he was two months. I knew immediately it was eczema because I have it really bad. My doctor wasn't really sure because it usually doesn't show up in babies that young. It was inflammed and weapy. It got infected with strep and staph, but was unable to use the rx creams available because of the steroid in it unitl he was 6 months. In the meantime I went off of anything dairy. If you've done that, take a look at soy. If you've supplemented your diet with a lot of soy she could be allergic to that. Does she throw up? Babies spit up, but they shouldn't be throwing up all the time. Does the rash flare up after a feeding? It could be the soap you use or lotion. Aveno has a great line for babies with sensitive skin. If you use cortizone creams RX or OTC, remember to use them sparingly. Creams with steroids thin the skin. If the skin is dry, creams may burn. Ointments are better if that is the case. I'm an RN and I've had tons of experience with allergies and eczema personally and with my son. Hope I helped.

Is she on some sort of formula? Check and make sure there is not a recall. With all the things going wrong in China with children's formula I would be sure to check and make sure you aren't using something that is now known to cause a problem.

All that aside, my other ideas would be thrush [though probably not if she's been cultured], drooling in her sleep [usually causes rash around the mouth area], or soap reaction.

If she is in fact a drooler, put a towel over her sleep area under her head. This should absorb the drool and allow her face to be dry at night.

If she is allergic to a soap, try any of the 'safe' brands without dyes or colors. She may have extremely sensitive skin [as most of the kids did in my family] that reacts to you breathing wrong in their general direction :) Try using vinegar in your rinse water to neutralize the soap and double rinse your sheets and clothes.

It may be all or none of my suggestions. But I hope you find an answer.

My girlfriend's little baby had the same problem and she was allergic to the milk and now she has to buy the really expensive milk that won't bother her. It would always flare up after she ate and then disappear after a few hours.

it could be eczema , my son had a rash on his face the doctor told me to use coritsone cream you can get it from the pharmacy and a glaxol base moisturizer which you also get from the pharmacy i used this for about a week and it cleared up and he hasent had it since.

if you are really concerned how about seeing a dermatologist...they look at skin all day. My son had eczema that got infected and our regular doc didn't pick it up, the dermatologist took one look and he was started on meds and didn't take long and he looked great.

my son still get's that to sometimes. its just a yeast infection. if you have calendula cream that helps get rid of it. i use products from california baby and they are all natural and it really helps his face.

My son had a bad rash on his face that the doctor said was cradle cap that had spread to his face. We had to put a prescription diaper rash cream on it for six months before it went away. The rash was itchy and kinda scaly.....don't know if your daughter's is like that, but my son's has been gone for five months now, thank god!
