My three year old thinks she is a big girl and doesn't want to nap. So I have tried calling it a "rest"; I remind her that it is ok to be tired and we can't do fun stuff when she is tired.

But she try's so hard to go without... and falls asleep by 5:30-6:00 almost every other night then stays up as late as she can sometimes 11:30-12:00.

What would you do to reslove this?

I have a four year and a two year old...and my four year old has been like that for as long as i can remember however..I tell them that they have one hour that they have to lay down...they don't have to sleep but they have to lay down without toys and movies and be quiet and rest...most of the time he ends up falling asleep but i always set a timer so that he knows that when it goes off he can get up and it doesnt make him feel like an eternity laying there... but the end product is he usually falls asleep and gets his nap time in..

you know.. i have this problem to.. my 2 1/2 year old has all the energy in the world.. i try to give her a bath and put her down for a nap but sometimes it doesn't work.. if it gets later in the day around that time.. i usually try and go for a walk or go to the park to keep her busy so when she gets home its dinner time then she will be exhausted.. you could also try to go for a car ride around 2:30-3 as well.. a long one that would put her to sleep..

My son does the same thing he wont even lay down anymore to "rest his eyes" then if we get in the car any time after 4:30 he goes right to sleep but then wants to stay up later. now that its summer i have been trying to tire him out in the morning by going to the park or the pool and then he will either sleep in the car on the way home or i put him in his bed and he will "Rest" not really nap but it keeps him from going to sleep at 5:00

I went through this stage as well my son is 3 1/2. He wouldnt take naps and fall asleep at 5:30. I would sometimes plan my trips around nap so on the way home he could fall asleep and take a little nap, one hour or so, somtimes I let him sleep longer but I paid for it later that night. he then would take naps about 2-3 days a week, now he is no longer naping and doesnt get too cranky at 5:30 anymore. So if you want her to take naps try driving or just lay down with her and call it rest time quiet time and make her lay down with a book or movie. good luck :)

perhaps try and make it a quiet time, read books something quiet in bed or maybe buy some big cushions so she can have her own personal area.
