need help combining babys meals along with family meals

my son is now near on 8 months old and everyone keep saying to try and get him onto our food now but i dont know a thing about preparing a meal that isnt out of a box, my mam has helped with the likes of shepherds pie and hotpot which i know if i mush down should be fine for him but stuck on the rest, dont even know if i am to put him onto stage 3 yet as i dont have a health visitor but he is ready to try normal food as he has tried a mcdonalds like all kids do. could you please help me by suggesting some meals we could all share and possibly how to make em it would be much appreciated, as i have ran into a brick wall on this end thank you very much for taking your time to read this

I pureed all of my children's food. We never did jarred food from the stores. It saved money and was healthier, as the ladies mentioned, all you need is a blender. Meat is the only thing that can be a bit difficult to puree. I would suggest making a roast or a stew because the meat is so tender and you can buy a ton of little freezer containers and freeze them. Cooked and pureed hot dogs are easy to do. Boneless, skinless chicken breast is another meat that is good to do. If you marinade it in whatever mix or dressing you like, make sure to cook the chicken tender, and not over cooked. Cut it up into tiny pieces and add some of the marinade in the blender and puree it. To get the chicken pureed enough, you may have to keep adding a little marinade until you get the right consistency. Pastas and vegetables are great foods to puree as well. A little trick with fruits is to make pie or cobbler. Obviously, when fruits are cooked, they're soft and mushy. Scoop some of the fruit out and puree it in the blender. Adding a little water or milk in the blender can help you get a good consistency. The great thing about home made baby food is that you can make things that they don't sell in stores that are healthier and cheaper to make.

I would stick to jarred foods for now. I didnt start giving my kids table food til they could pick it up themselves. But I also wasnt going to pureee what I was cooking because to be honest, I think its kinda gross. I m sure its healthier for thembut I know I wouldnt want a purred hotdog but would eat the stuff out of a jar (and have the apples and peaches and green beans are awesome) lol.

Claire If you would like i can give you heaps of receipes. easy and quick and not out of a box. I am lucky enough to have learnt to cook from my mum and she is a fabulous cook! Add me on facebook and include circle of mums in the request, if you want to that is.. I have a two yr and an 8 month old (both boys) they eat pretty much everything i put infront of them (or spoon into them). Easy things are spagetti bolongnaise, beef stroganoff, creamy pasta's and i have heaps more ideas!

What you eat, he will eat... do you have a food mixer or hand held blender??? what ever you eat like meat & three veggies is great & little bowls of kiddie yoguart with mashed fruit and even porridge is good... let him sit with the family at meal time let him see you eat... remember this monkey see monkey do that some will go with your son he'll love food in no time!!!

Hi Claire,



You can pretty much puree most of your meals. Such as if your family is having a roast with veggies or even fish (without bones)... Just put it in the blender and give it to your son like custard. He will be getting all the nutrients your eating yourself. Mash veggies are also good.
