Put the child on the potty around the same times each day (ex, when he/she wakes up, after each meal, just before bed). Reward with something small (like a sticker) just for sitting, something bigger for pee (M&M), and even bigger for #2 (sucker). When the child is going regularly, try putting him/her in big kid undies for a little while. Accidents feel completely different in undies than they do in diapers. When I worked at a daycare, I used these methods and they worked with most children. There was even a little girl that had 1 accident in big girls and never had one again.

I have a very stubborn 2 year old boy who is also a little obsessive about mess. so I left all bottoms off of him for several weeks. in the beginning some of it did land on the floor. then he gained awareness of what it felt like to have to go, and if he could get to the potty fast he would make it. now, as he discovers what it feels like he is gaining control. we are just starting to add elastic waist pants that he can take up and down by himself. I think because it was always his idea that it was such a success. though it would be hard to do if you weren't home all day long.

Quoting Alexa:

Are you just now starting?!?!?

I've been workng on my daughter since 14 months (she did good from 15-18 months) but now no luck! She is very stubborn and I've tried charts and stickers, candy, etc!

Anymore ideas! I really dont want to scare her into it but my patience is running thin cause she knows how to go and goes when she wants!

you dont wanna push her to hard because then she will be scared and really wont go. but maybe she just isnt ready yet give her some time she will get.

I have two toddlers that I am potty training at the same time. My son is 3333333 NOW! Uugh! I'm so annoyed because I am a stay-at-home mom and I have been working with my son since he was 1! I don't feel too bad about that because I know there was some inconsistency, which is a big no no. It was only inconsistent because we always have to be out and going somewhere so he wasn't home long enough to make the training stick. His doctor suggested putting a potty in the car and let him go there when he has too. That only works the best if u have a van or SUV. Since he turned 2 1/2 I've been consistently training him this way in addition to allowing him to be at home and free with no pull ups. IT WORKS!! He started going on his own, washing and drying his hands too! We moved on to big boy underpants and THAT WORKED TOO! Except he was having a little trouble with the #2. However, I knew his #2 times and he was able to wear underwear outside the house! We were almost there until my husband was off from work for a period of time and decided he didn't like me chastising my son for doing the #2 on himself and said that he didn't know any better. So....I backed off...now we are totally back at square 1 and the boy won't even do the #1 in the potty! He wasn't even going to the "potty" when I almost had him completely trained, he was using the regular toilet! Call me disgusted! My daughter just turned 2 and was begging to go to the bathroom at 1 so she's foing great. I'll give her a few more weeks and she'll be good to go. Girls are so much easier in this area.

I am in same boat, i took three weeks off work to potty train my son who is now 3 and 4 months old and he still refuses to wee in his potty, he has done a number 2! but insists that he doesnt want to make a wee anywhere other than in his nappy. I've left the nappy off and he has wet himself but it still doesnt phase him at all. have also tried the toilet and had his dad bring him in to show him how to do it but all to no avail. So good luck with it, i hope it works out for one of us

my 1st boy did it so fast when I told him I would buy him a big boy bed. My younges is a pain in my but. I took off a week of work just to finalize it and it is not done. my husband will continue next week while I am at work. We are now putting our non-potty training boy in a cold shower (like a pool temp.) for 10 sec. when he goes in his pants. he is getting so much better.

what i did with my girl was show her the potty and how to use it and let her go to it when she wanted so she wasnt scared of it. after a few weeks of letting her go to it on her own i put her in panties. she had a few mistakes but learnt pretty quick cause she didnt like her pants getting wet.
