My 13 month old only wants to take one 60 min. nap a day (usually late morning), and it is at different times every day. He used to take two 90 min. naps a day, at 9am and 1pm from about 9 to 12 months old. He still sleeps 11-12 hours a night. I feel like he is not getting enough sleep during the day, he seems crankier now but refuses to take a second nap. Maybe it is time to go to only 1 nap a day, but he can barely stay awake until after lunch. I try to take him out to get him tired but it doesn't seem to help. What can I do to get him on a nap schedule and sleep more?

I would have to agree that it is about time to change the naps from twice a day to once a day. My advice would be to have the child wake up early in the morning, no later than 8:00 am. I would have a morning routine to follow, and make lunch at about 11:00/11:30 am. After lunch to help the child wind down from the morning's events I would have a story time or quiet activity. Then, I would have the child lay down from 12:00-2:00 pm. Even if the child wakes up before 2:00, I would make them stay in the bed or quiet area. I used to work at a daycare and this was our daily schedule for the one year old room. It may be hard for the first week, but everything is about repetition and eventually after seven days (max) of being in the same routine day in and day out, the child will adapt and your day should become a little easier. It is hard at first to introduce change to any child, but just like us, they will adapt, again after a little repetition. If your child was in a childcare environment, he/she would be on a schedule, it makes it a little more difficult if the child is in an unstructured environment, or has a different schedule every day. I hope this helps. I am a full time student and stay at home mom and I had to follow my own advice. I was allowing my child to sleep whenever he wanted, and that was a huge mistake. However, I changed that and followed my own advice (the advice I just gave to you), and it worked! I hope I was of some help to you!!

I've read somewhere that from 10 months to a year they need anywhere from 11-14 hours a day. It just depends on your baby.
