My 2 month old baby girl that is formula fed (due to not producing enough milk for her) has not pooped for over 2.5 days now and is super fussy. She is also teething and her diapers have been wet as per normal but no bowel movements.

try a suppository. she might have a hard bowel movement that she cant get out and with that she might beable to have a easier bowel movement after that. it worked great for my son. Ive also learned now that hes 21m/o apple cider works great too but of course I think that its too early to be giving a 2 m/o that to drink.

You can use a baby suppository. They do work very well. My grandaughter had a terrible time when my daughter couldn't nurse anymore. She would bring my grandaughter over for me to put the suppository in to help her to go. It never failed. If your not used to it, make sure you use a cream around the rectum area so it is slippery then put the suppository in. Hold it until you feel her pushing and believe me, you will have her cleaned out. Take care!! I know this one works' for sure.

She sounds like my son. He did the same thing when I switched from breastfeeding to formula feeding. He would get so constipated, that he would go 3, 4, or sometimes 5 days without a BM and when he did try to go, it was so hard that he screamed and cried because it hurt. I finally talked to my son's pedicitrican and he recommended the Good Start Gentlelease, or any of the Gentle Formulas mixed with part water and either part prune juice or apple juice. I tried it and within 3 days, my son' constipation issue was resolved! Hope this helps some.

The same thing happened to my daughter. She was on enfamil A+ and I changed her to Enfamil Gentleease...what a difference! The doctor told me they can go up to 3 days without having a bowel movement but you can put some vaseline on a q-tip and insert the tip into her bum then take it out and that should make her poop within the hour. Just don't do it too often or she will get a lazy bowel. Good Luck :)

It is normal for a baby to poop 1-3 times every 1-3 days. That means your baby can poop 3 times in 1 day or 1 time every 3 days. Lactose intolerance is VERY uncommon in babies. If anything, it would be a protein difficiency, which are much more common. It is very rare to have a newborn with lactose intolerance, as lactose intolerance is caused by a lack of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose. Protein difficeincies are much more common, and can cause a baby a LOT of problems.

Your case seems normal, though. She is teething (which she will be doing for a while), and producing plenty of wetr diapers. She might be gassy, though. Try moving her legs in a bicycle motion to help push the gas out (You can also put her on tummy time on a blanket ONLY if you plan to watch her the entire time she is on tummy time.)

Wish you luck!
Melanie

Hi Karen. My daughter is 4 now, but when she was a baby, she was constipated for almost the whole first 7mo of her life. I tried the Karo syrup, juices, baby food fruit, etc... It wasn't until she passed a hard, bloody stool that we took her to the emergency room. The doctor that saw her said he had this problem with one of his kids. He gave her script for power Miralx to put in her formula bottle and to add mineral oil to the bottle. It took a couple of times of getting used to for her with the mineral oil, but it did the trick. You will obviously have to discuss with your Dr. about the script and the amount of mineral oil to put in, but if you decide to go this route, I hope it helps. Good luck.

I also did not produce enough milk to nurse my son for more than a month or so and he ended up on Enfamil Lipil formula. He became fussy and gassy and constipated to where he wasn't pooping for up to 5 days at a time. We tried diluted apple juice, tried Karo syrup, tried a couple suppositories and nothing could regulate him. Then we decided to try the Gentlease formula, which helped his fussiness for a couple of days but still no regular poop and then the fussies came back. Finally his doctor suggested that we try the Prosobee formula. Two days after starting that the gas stopped and his attitude improved. About a week later he started pooping every day! I never though I would be so happy to be changing stinky diapers! It was seriously like having a whole new baby. He stayed on the soy until he turned one. I was a little worried about switching to the whole cow's milk since he had been on soy for so long, but there were no issues at all. He actually prefers milk over juice!!
Anyway, good luck with your little one, hope you can get her going soon!

Try some prune juice and also to help you can move her legs as if she were riding a bike, that kind of gets everything moving I guess. I know if you give your kid too much apple juice it will hurt their teeth (not sure if your little girl has any yet) so I wouldn't do too much apple juice. If you're worried just call your doctor up or an advice nurse and they can help you.

My kid was like that too and I agree with whoever said he may be lactose intolerant because as soon as I put Logan on lactose free formula after trying every other formula he started being a lot more regular.

Hi , I had that problem with my son at that age i took him to the hospital due to they ran so many test on why he wouldnt poop and all that not fun son my poor son at that time anyways it turned out he was allergic to that formula due to all the iron in it witch can effect alot of babys so i switched my son to soy after the hospital had put him on a hypro-allergedic formla you can try that also you can put some prune juice in her bottle

I had that problem with my son, i had to change his formula. different formulas have different effects sometimes. It can take a few tries to find the right one.

I also agree w/Heather, the iron could be causing constipation. Try a formula w/less iron...

if you are giving formula with iron in it sometimes that can cause constipation i know you said that they gave her a suppository but i just figured i would let you know it case it happens again other than changing the formula i would always talk to your pediatrician before doing anything else at that age she is still too young for over the counter stuff hope it doesnt happen again!! good luck

Have you tried to switch to a sensitive formula for lactose sensitive babies? I know a lactose intolerance can cause constipation....

Try putting a little bit more water in her formula or get her some coloxyl drops for infants it relieves constipation in infants, both ways have worked for my kids.

seeing as she is only 2 months I wouldnt give her anything with out talking to a doctor first. If you can see her straining to try to poop you can try a suppository. But before you feed or give her anything to drink talk to your doctor.

It is nothing to be to worried about. My health nurse's told me that formula feed babies dont always have bowel movements very day. If you are worried you could try asking the chemist for something to help her. She may be a little bit constipated there for her body is not wanting to make any movements. My 8 month old had that problem a couple of months ago. The chemist gave me Colosil drops. I just mixed it in with her night time bottles. Good luck with everything :)

2.5 days isn't really a worry yet. Infant's Friend helps to bring it on or Coloxyl drops. Or brown sugar in water.

When kids start out on juice they recommend a 4 oz drink 1/2 water 1/2 juice so if you give your child juice I would mix it in with her formula maybe add 1 oz in 2 bottles ea. or add 2 ozs in one bottle. My neighbor had to give his boy juice every day to help w/bowels at a young age as well.

I've heard no karo syrup, it can mess with their sugars. My doctor said use apple juice but at 4m. I would call your doctor and she/he may be able to give you some medicine to help.

Also apple juice works great too. When I was a baby my mom used to have to give it to me every day. When I had my oldest it worked great with her too. Just put a tiny bit of 100% apple juice in with her formula during feedings. It does wonders :)

My doctor recomended for my niece and my son to use a tsp of the dark karo syrup in their bottles. Just try it with one bottle and if that doesnt work then it sounds like you should try the doctor.
