Hi everyone! I am new to the "young moms" community. I am pregnant with my first child, and i will be 22 when he is born. I am a nursing assistant, certified in the state of michigan. However, right after getting my certificate i found out i was pregnant and did not want to start my new career at such a stressful time, so i was still working at Papa Romano's pizzeria in Redford, MI until last Wednesday which was, thankfully, my last day. I am lucky to have parents and a fiancee who will support me through my lack of employment. I will be going back to school in Fall of 2011 for an RN associates at Schoolcraft Community College in Livonia, MI.

I have never even babysat a newborn before and would appreciate any practical advice! I am a little nervous, but very very excited for my new son :)

There are alot of new mothers that are in your same situation. I have a friend that was in the same situation, and she said when her daughter was born her "motherly" instincts kicked in. It comes natural when the baby is born. I would listen to an advice that your mom or parental figure can give you. The biggest thing I think for a newborn is a routine and structure. I was 25 when I had my first, and I kept trying to put my daughter on my schedule, and it didn't work. I would start a routine right away, but it isn't always easy. My daughter goes to bed every night by 9 if not a little earlier. Also, I wouldn't start the habit of putting the baby in bed with you. Sometimes, when people start that, they don't stop. My daughter was in her own crib, in her own room at 3 mo. up til then she was sleeping in a bassinet beside our bed. Also, motherhood is a wonderful thing always remember that. It is a big adjustment, but things do get better as time goes on. Good luck with everything. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Take all the parenting classes you can find. I have a lot of neices and nephews and I've babysat a lot but when it came to having my own child, I felt totally clueless. The classes really helped calm me a little bit.
