My son is almost 18 months. He has 6 teeth on top, 2 on the bottom and no molars. We need to get him on more 'big kid' food but are having trouble. He can't really eat a lot of foods because he can't really chew yet. We are still giving him baby foods to help make sure he his eating a good meal.
The problem, he is getting really picky and some days, just wants to 'snack'. (no junk, just baby snacks like puffs). We have tried to puree some foods but the problem is that his father and I don't eat a lot of foods that can be pureed and eaten safely. Other days, we aren't hungry enough for dinner at all. Is there any other ideas, instead of baby foods, that we can try with him? Or is it just a good idea to keep the jars around as a good backup?

my child at that age only had 6 teeth in his hole mouth and he eat everythin took him along time as he gummed it but he got there and the jars are only 4 babys and at that age they need a good balanced diet. so even if you give your child mash and carrots at first and leave the carrot hole but cooked and then start intraducin more food to the mash and give them finger foods like bread cheese and crisps like quavers and skips hope this helps good luck

My oldest is allergic to peanuts but she needed protine so we gave her toufu squares she loved them! another thing you can do is buy chunky soups and drain the broth off and feed him the soft veggies and meats (they'll kinda mush in his mouth) he'll love them those are great things to start him off with as well as yougert and small bits of fruit

My son has 2 teeth ( a rather recent developpment as well) and he has been eating table foods for some time now. They dont need a full mouth of teeth , or molars to chew their food.

You can give him pretty much anything.. my 10 month old has been eating peices of steak and chicken since well before he had teeth. they just have to be small enough peices that wont cause choking and he can gum them to death.

there is really no reason for you 18 month to be eating purees and babyfood.

Pasta, tender meats, any vegetables in sticks, cubes or mashed ( mashed potatoes, turnips, yams, which can all b e served in cubes as well) chunks of cheese, dry/wet cereal, fruits, you name it your kid can have it.

you also need to teach your child proper eating habits and lead by example by eating healthy meals with him. Everyone should be having dinner, so if that means you have to eat a lighter lunch yourself then so be it. Otherwise , you are showing your child its okay to skips meals and refuse to eat.

get rid of the jars all together, they are way to tempting and to easy.

When my daughter started eating table food (12 months)she only had 4 teeth, 2 up, 2 down. We still gave her everything we ate and just cut it into very small pieces. She even ate steak just cut very small, like the size of a pea. She'd gum it for awhile, then swallow. She never choked on anything.
