I went to my 24 week check up today and the baby's heart was strong, I'm measuring right on track, BUT.... I gained 12 pounds from my last appt 4 weeks ago! I saw the scale and I was DEVISTATED. Up until my last appointment I had only gained 7. I had one of those good ol' prego freak outs and cried to the doctor about it and he said unless it continues to be that rapid he's not worried about it and neither should I. But still, it freaked me out!

more than likely the pounds will fall right off after baby is here thats what happened 2 me any way. well most of them fell off any way lol. but my average weight is 160 i weighed 200lbs by the time i had my lil girl thats 40lbs i gained after i had her i weighed around 170 to 175 so i kept 10 to 15 lbs it was no biggie.

Quoting September:

I don’t understand how people can be so self absorbed about gaining weight while pregnant. It’s not about you! It’s about the baby. It's not like you can grow your baby without gaining weight!

Im not being funny or nothing but you should really think before you call people self absorbed because it might not be that they could have an eating disorder, illness or something for all you know

LOL I did the same thing!!!! I gained 60 by the end of my pregnancy. but I have lost all of it now. Don't worry about it :) like your dr said it won't be a problem unless you have a rapid weight gain. my problem was my food cravings were so strong it was too hard for me to ignore them!!! hehe

If you are only 24 weeks and gained only 7 pounds and then you gaind 12 more you are fine. I gained 30 pounds during my whole pregnancy and within 3 weeks after having the baby I lost all 30 pounds. Don't worry. I know for a fact the last couple weeks of your pregnancy you WILL gain 2-4 pounds every week. Don't worry, it will all be ok.

funny...my "weight" freak out came at my 6wk post check. This was my 3rd child and I was already mad that the weight wasnt dropping anywhere close to how fast it did with the 1st two. So I hop on the scale and it says 170lbs (i was 184lbs at 39wks) I wanted to cry! thank god the nurse took a second look and decided that couldnt be right and put me on a diff scale 140lbs was sounding much better and she saved me from my complete and utter melt down

Oh honey DON'T be upset, at my 4th month appointment I had already gained 15 lbs! I am just about at my 24 week appointment and well I haven't gained anything yet because half of what I eat is healthy but my body or the baby is like NOPE and kicks it right back at me. Your going to gain more weight because your baby is growing, it's NOT you it's the little tyke inside, I bet more than anything your going to see that you'll lose ALOT of that after baby is born :) alot of people have told me that I haven't gained anywhere but the belly which is a good sign of a big baby but not to much weight gain to myself. As long as your walking and doing the things that are good for you and not just plopping your butt on the couch you should be just fine :)

I was 125 pounds before baby and weighed in at 170 the day I gave birth. I feel your pain! Three months later I'm down to 145 so it comes off fast (especially if you are breastfeeding like me)! Dont let it stress you out. Your doc is right unless it stays that fast then you got nothing to worry about.

gaining 12 pounds was the norm for me, i gained 60 pounds with both of my daughters. All tha doctors looked at me like i munched on bugers and fries and coke all day... which was not the case i eat super healthy even when im not prego. and they also told me my babies where gonna be too big that i wont b able to have them cus im smaller.. but as long as you know ur eating healthy and the measurments at the ultrasound are good dont worry bout it.. my kids wieghed 7.13 and 7.9 at full term ( not obese ) dont stress over gaining wieght ( u are pregnant ) and thats even more reason to stay calm cus your baby can feel wen you are sad and dont worry bout loseing the wieght its not as hard as people may say...

Hey, I'm to the point of once a week appointments.. so you can see how upset i was when i gained 7 pounds between my weekly appointments... This is my first pregnancy and i havent been taking the whole weight gain thing too well either.. I get pretty emotional when i see those skinny chicks at the mall or whenever i see old pictures of myself.. But most everyone has been telling me it would be hard to lose the weight.. I plan to breastfeed and I hear that helps a lot with losing weight..

Just try not to think about it and avoid mirrors if you can.. :)

oh I wouldnt worry, you know with my first one I only gained 7 lbs until I was about 7 mo preggo, then I ballooned to +60 by the end of the pregnancy but most of it was water weight, I was swollen so bad, but this time around I am really worried because our son was only 7 mo when we found out I was preggo again, and I have not had a chance to lose the weight from the first one, but the most important thing is what ever is the most healthy for the baby!

Honey, I only gained 5 lbs in the first 5 months, but got up to 60lbs by the end of the pregnancy due to 30 lbs of water weight! That's 55 lbs in 4 months! I understand your devastation. Make sure that if you keep gaining that way, you get checked for gestational diabetes that's what caused my weight-gain :)

I gained 65 lb. with my son! your definitely not alone! After the baby was born I would jog with him in his joggling stroller. It took me about 7 month to loose all the baby weight I put on. The first 25 lb. come off easy it's mostly just water weight and if you breast feed that will help burn the calories faster too!
p.s you look great don't worry!

Thank you everyone for your support! It has helped me out more than you know!!! I'm not freaking out any more, though. I've come to the conclusion that I know I'm eating healthy; I don't eat chips, soda, candies or cookies. Of course occaisionally I will give in and have a little fun treat, but I try to make my calories count, and I use portion control. I don't add any salt to my food. I don't eat any fast food or processed food if I can help it. Drink tons and tons of water, these eating habbits are what I've always had. SO having said all that, I know that the way I'm eating isn't affecting the weight gain as much as I thought it was. And if my body puts on that much weight, there's a reason for it, and besides that I think it is mostly water; I'm starting to swell LOTS more in the past few weeks. I don't want to give the impression that I'm self absorbed with my weight, or that I would ever put that before the health of my baby. My biggest concerns are in my family there is a history of gestational diabetes, and toxemia. There's also hypertension, obesity, poly-cystic ovarian disease, diabetes, and hypoglycemia. Since I have gotten pregnant I now have hypoglycemia, which is a precursor to diabetes. The concern that I have with gaining too much weight is more than anything for my health and my baby's! Most of these conditions can't be prevented, but living a healthy lifestyle and eating right will help it be more managable if something does come up. Thank you all again for all your support and stories! It's good to know that we have sucha great support group! xxx

I gained about 50 lbs during my pregnancy. I was pretty upset about it too cause I had heard that the average healthy weight gain is something like 30 lbs. I don't agree with that though cause everyone is different and it just depends on the person and the baby. My little guy was 9 lbs 14 oz also, so with that and the weight of the uterus and water and all, it's not so bad. Still working on getting it all off though and he's 2 and a half months now

I went from a size zero to after the delivery wearing a 16/18... within a month of her birth I was wearing a size 5... It's ok... I went nuts with my pregnancy, but I was on bed rest for six months of it, so the weight piled on... I ate whole apple pies, lol... I was bad bad bad... and I cried miserably about it and freaked out about it totally. But after she was born, I walked with her and was running crazy with her and keeping busy and it literally fell off me... Mommy and me swimming classes did great work outs even when she was an infant. You'll be fine sweetie, it's ok to freak a little, it's ok to gain a little...

Its probably water weight, and your baby is growing too! As he/she grows she/hes going to gain his/her own weight! Its not all you, and then you have to add the lovely water weight your babys swimmin in. ;) No worries!

[deleted account]

aww, don't feel too bad. i had one of the nurses chastise me for gaining 10 pounds in one month, and i broke down right there in the doctor's office. talk about adding insult to injury.
it's hard to gain it all now, but you'll likely naturally lose most of it within a few months of having your baby.

Your doctor's right as long as you are not a high risk pregnancy and as long as you put weight on but not in an extreme amount you will be fine! I had 2 high risk pregnancies and weight gain for me was scary becuase of the complications I had. From someone with experience w/ complications as long as you are peeing like a pregnant women and you BP is good I wouldn't worry. Just eat healthy and take walks and enjoy being pregnant and try not to stress! I know its hard but think about that beautiful baby you will soon meet!

I got huge but you will loose it just excersise not right away but usually when your water breaks and your baby comes out your stomach will go down a lot! hope that helps... and dont feel bad your supposed to get big when your pregnant use it as an excuse to eat as much and as often as you want. :)

Enjoy being pregnant, and being allowed whatever cravings you can conceive of. When I was pregnant, I ate healthy food (I actually craved it more than anything else...anything with grease made my stomach turn), but boy, nothing compares to the satisfaction of eating a tomato-pickle salad with lemon mousse cake at 3 in the morning. Remember, that your baby is growing and relishing every nutrient he or she can get, and you lose all that weight after the baby is born. Plus, if you breastfeed, you will lose the weight quicker, and keep it off for longer. :) Congrats on your baby!
