Withdrawal (pull out) is not an effective method of birth control. Of women using the withdrawal method for one year, approximately 25% will get pregnant sometime during the course of that year. In fact, it is possible to get pregnant the very first time that you use withdrawal.
There are several reasons for this. A ¼ teaspoon of semen can contain 100 million sperm or more. That means that if any semen gets near your vagina, there is a significant possibility of pregnancy. So if your partner pulls out just a fraction of a second later than he intended, you could get pregnant. If he ejaculates anywhere near your vagina, you could get pregnant.
Even if your partner times everything perfectly, and ejaculates away from your vagina, you could still get pregnant. That’s because fluid released before ejaculation (“pre-cum”) also contains some sperm.
well the reason i ask , is i have been having some symptoms of pregnancy and im 2 days late . but i found it hard to believe if im pregnant cuz he always pulls out . but i will find out in the morning . i was just wondering if it is possible

Ok...Yes, it's possible to get pregnant that way if you're super fertile and he's got super sperm, but it's actually really rare that women get pregnant if the man's ACTUALLY pulling out BEFORE he ejaculates. It takes a lot of discipline and most men don't do it correctly. If you know when you're ovulating I recommend using the pull out method and the rythm method if you don't want to use other birth control. Good luck!

Wow, it's funny to read all these responses, we've always used the pull-out method too, and haven't got pregnant using that method, but I knew it was possible, and always tell my boyfriend that ~ I'll have to have him read this, lol, also, it's funny to see that so many people use this method, cuz I'm always embarrased at the dr. when they ask what kind of birth control I use and I have to explain...

YES YES YES!!!! my boyfriend was using that and before i knew it Jeremiah was here....! he of course claimed that he "pulled out" but obviously there was something wrong with his much perfected technique that day! so yes it can happen and if you are not ready look into other methods....

That's how I got pregnant...actually wait, not really. We were using"pull and pray" method :) for over a year and everything was fine until one night when my husband just kind of lost himself into passion :) and forgot to "pull out" and then boom! I got pregnant

I GOT PREGNANT USING THE PULL OUT METHOD!!!!!!!
And I was stupid and thought... oh, we've been using this for three years and haven't gotten pregnant yet so....
Yes. You can totally get pregnant this way. Even if your husband is like...supreme champion puller outer.

I am sure you have gotten a lot of truth so far. What I know to be true is that the pull out method is 70% effective...and having sex without pulling out is 60% so you are only 10% more likely to get pregnant if he doesn't pull out. There is suppose to be a higher sperm count in pre-ejaculatory fluid then when he finishes. I have always been told when looking into these things is that you are more likely to get pregnant from pre then the end. I am pretty sure that is how I got pregnant with the child I am carrying now. My best friend and I were seeing each other as more then just friends for the first time for only 3 weeks and I got pregnant! I don't honestly recommend it!

my current husband got me pregnant using the pull out method...he also got his ex that he slept with while we were broken up pregnant 2 months before me using the pull out method so ya it can happen...we're still using the method and its been a year and a half and nothing so it all depends

Both my husband and I are are Catholic, and we used condoms before we were ready to start trying to have a baby. I don't care for the pull out method because not every man can truly tell when it's coming and there are swimmers who get released before he is done so it's prob the least effective method to actually use. I don't like the calender method either because then we have to limit sex to certain days of the month. Sounds more like your husband is using his religion as an excuse to not have to wear a rubber and to control you by not letting you use the pill if you wanted to.

Yes you can get pregnant from the pull out method..its so easy..becides the fact theres pre ejaculation which contains sperm aswell..id try changing your methods as the pull out method isnt really used that much anymore and if your trying to avoid pregnancy then maybe an actual contraception should be in place for you.

Christina, I was suggesting using another birth control, because evidently, if you didn't realise you can get pregnant using the withdrawal method (Sex Ed 101), you may also not be using it correctly. Used correctly it is only 85% effective, so imagine the failure rate if not used correctly....just read this thread and you will see the results of that!!
Christina I don't mean this in a nasty or insulting way but you said "and as far as birth control my husband is catholic so he wont let me use any". Surely you have a say in it? If you're happy doing what you are then fair enough but I would never let my husband tell me what to do.
thanks again for ur comments , me and my husband dont use protection if we get pregnant great if we dont we dont . were married so it comes with being married that u have kids . we are trying to hold off until our son is 3 . and as far as birth control my husband is catholic so he wont let me use any .

Quoting Julie B
"And I say for you bc I'm sure your hubby won't want to use a condom if he's used the feeling of not having one...)"
My hubby will use whatever I damn well tell him to use until such time as HE could carry and give birth to the baby.

I think you can because of pre-ejaculation or something. And he has to be very skilled at the actual pulling out part...I think it's like 85% effective. But we've been using pull out method for 5 years and have no had a single accident. not even close. I hope that helps. I personally love it because I'm not 100% against the idea of having another child, we're just not going to try and not going to stop what we're doing. But if you absolutely don't want to get preggo, then I'd say use a backup method such as the pill or the shot or whatever else is out there. (And I say for you bc I'm sure your hubby won't want to use a condom if he's used the feeling of not having one...)

Definitely don't do that! It's soo much easier and less stressful to figure when you're ovulating and then avoid sex 4 days before and 2 days after (If you are for some reason not wanting to use any form of birth control). Get to know your body well and it will be easy to avoid pregnancy :). Good luck!

You can get pregnant from it. Unprotected sex is unprotected sex no matter how you justify it. Condoms, birth control, tubes tied, sponges, etc all have a small % of not working and as long as you are doing the deed, there's always a chance to get pregnant.
Only reliable methods to prevent pregnancy is not having sex or get a hysterectomy. :P
The withdrawal method is not an effective way of preventing pregnancy. Using this method carries a 20% chance of concieving so I would suggest anyone who is using this and doesn't want t get pregnant to use a proper form of birth control.

LOL YES! They have a word for people who use this as a form of BC.......Parents! The myth that this is in anyway effective truly astounds me. Not to get on anyone who thinks or thought this might work but if you are having sex there is a percentage you could get pregnant. And this percentage only goes up over time, no matter if you use birth control of not there is ALWAYS a chance. People get pregnant if they've been told they physically can't or if they got their tubes tied, if they've been on Depo for years (me) or always use condoms. This method with get you a baby faster than any other. The only 100% way NOT to get pregnant is to not have sex. :)
