My 10 mo. old is teething badly. He already has one tooth and two more are coming in at the same time. I give him orajel and baby tylenol. He hates chewing on teething rings, whether it's cold or room temperature. He hates anything even near his face. I feed him a cold bottle of milk and he spits it out and screams bloody murder. We put him in his swing and he demands to be held, but he still cries even when we are holding him. I've tried patting his back and butt a little firmer (normally that calms him) and that doesn't work. I've rocked him and tried distracting him. It's driving me crazy to the point where I'm in tears b/c we can't figure out how to get him to stop crying. It's only when he's teething!

Double up the Tylenol and Motrin, they are safe to take together and should give you a bit of a break.

I would definitely try an all-spice necklace.  There's websites to tell you how to make them.

WOW all of you have given great advice. I will try the frozen popsicles, teething tablets, frozen fruit and the frozen waffles and we'll see what works. It's just so frustrating b/c I know he is hurting and I wish I could take that pain away from him! I know if he just chewed on something it would distract him and make him feel better but he purses his lips and refuses to open up his mouth lol. And this is only the 2nd tooth, lord I wonder what it'll be like when the molars come in!  Thank you all for the advice :)

I used the teething tablets, too. They didnt seem to TOTALLY ease the pain, but they definitely helped him... the tylenol did not. He wouldn't/won't take teething rings so it was a trial and error for what he WOULD chew on. Eventually we found a couple toys that worked (his favorite is a cloth snail rattle with different prongs coming off that fit right in his mouth and is easy to hold) but at night he'd just cry and cry. Try the teething tablets- ike people have said, they're all natural and they seemed to cut the pain enough for my son to fall asleep. He's a big boy (21 pounds, 6 months) so I had to give him 4.

I know it's hard! But you are not alone!!! A lot of us have gone through what you're going through (I know I have, and I know it's heartbreaking). Hang in there! Good luck!

One good thing about all of the teeth coming in is that you will get it out of the way soon. We did the teething tablets and they seemed to work much better then the orajel. Ice in a wash cloth also worked great for us. Good Luck !

A friend told me about Hyland's Teething Tablets.  My little guy isn't teething yet, but she said her daughter was miserable.  2-3 of the tablets (one at a time) into her mouth and she was herself again.  Also they're all-natural, so you don't have to worry about overdosing!

I love teething tablets, they usually work better than orajel even. My mom said she used to give me and my siblings the big pickles.

Cheese doodles were my girls best friend when they were teething. They are a little ruff so it helped get them in quicker an the rubbing seemed to numb them s little too. Also since they desolve quickly they didnt choke on them.

I give mine watermelon or pineapple chunks out of the fridge. It tastes great and soothes his pain. Either that or there are these little toys with a mesh pouch that you can fill with frozen fruit.
Putting him into his saucer also helps because it distracts him.
Good luck :-)

ok ok i know youve tried all the medicines and stuff.. so did i... nothing works for my daughter either.. she hated the teethers and wont drink cold milk either

her grandparents started giving her those Mr. Freeze Pops.. she loved them and theyre cheap.. plus lots of flavors... if you dont like the idea of all that sugar you can buy pedia lite freezes... or buy those popsicle makers and use baby juice and water..

oh also what sometimes worked was frozen fruit..

i think they want something that isnt just cuz their teeth hurt but something they enjoy

Wow, that sounds familiar! My 10 month old already has 8 teeth in and now his molars are working their way in too! He hates teethers, whether cold, frozen, or warm. I have found though that some bath toys (little squirters) are just perfect for him! They're made of a hard plastic yet  not too hard that he can't squish them in his mouth, and they're big enough to not choke on. He also likes wet washcloths or wipes (gross-Lol) to chew on at times. We have also been using the Baby Orajel and Tylenol, which don't seem to help him any. Sometimes he does just like to gnaw on my clean fingers too. Good luck though, if I come up with any more ideas I will let you know.

Frozen waffles! And at night when I wanted my daughter to sleep I used baby Orajel on her gums. I also froze her pacifiers and that seemed to help a lot.

My boy is teething too, it seems to be such a painful, uncomfortable time for them. You could try some amber teething beads, a girlfriend used them for her boy and said they worked a charm. Otherwise, putting some ice in muslin cloth and tying it in a knot for them to chew on works well too. I think most of the time you just need to ride it out. Maybe some pamol? Hope that helps.
