Maria - JUST not having your period is not a sure sign that you can't get pregnant. I recommend reading Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. It teaches you about your body so you know when you're fertile. I know I've ovulated because my body started showing the signs - increased vaginal fluids (the stuff that is stringy and stretchy like egg whites means you're really fertile), then I have a little mild cramping on one side for a day, which for me means I'm ovulating. Not everyone feels the egg being released though....

My daughter was born Oct 13th. I am EBF and I was actually enjoying the benefits of not having a period after my pp bleeding, That is until I got a Mirena IUD placed this month. Now I have been spotting on and off and kind of wish I hadn't done it!

I had my son on the 8th of November and have still not had my period yet. From what I understand if you are solely breastfeeding it can take 6 months or so for your period to come back.

@ Maria, you can get pregnant before you have a period. Haivng a period is the result of an unfertalized egg needing to exit your body. You ovulate, the egg waits to be fertilized, if it isn't you have a period. Some women can feel ovulation when it happens. It's called mittleschmerz. I'm not sure I spelled that correctly, but anyway...I used to be able to feel it. I've had one period since I got pregnant in September 09.

And while most women do have periods, if you don't have one at all, and it isn't the result of a hysorectomy or breastfeeding, SEE YOUR DOCTOR! If you aren't having a period, you aren't ovulating, if you aren't ovulating, something's out of whack with your hormones, and that can be caused by a series of things. In particular, insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes. Know your body, and listen to your instincts. You'll know when something isn't right.

I had my daughter in July and have had one period since. I'm not pregnant (praise the Lord!). Just take a test in a couple weeks, trust that it's correct, and go on about your business. If you're really worries that it might be wrong, see your doctor for a blood test, and go from there. It'll be okay :)

After my daughter was born I started taking a bc pill that was safe for breast feeding. We bf until 9 months. Once I started taking my normal bc pills (month 10) my period came back right away.

I think it was about 6 months after. Sometimes breastfeeding can delay you getting your period back. Did you have before having sex?

I got mine about 6 weeks or so with both of my kids, but if you are nursing, it can take a lot longer (I wasn't able to nurse long because of work issues).

@Liz Dean, you will eventually get your period, all women have a period, it's natures way, unless is scarce cases.

I bled after having my daughter for almost 6 weeks. I BF her for 10 weeks. I didn't get a period again until she was nearly 7 months old and then I fell pregnant when she was 12 months old. If you are concerned, do a test, but I think you will be fine. Perhaps exercise more caution in the future? ;)

I BF my son and didn't get my period until I finished BFing. So, it was about 11 months after I had him lol. With my daughter I was about 2 m PP and only BF for a month. Each woman is different, but if you're worried just take a pregnancy test. Best way to find out :) I think I took three after my son was born just because I went to long without a cycle lol.

I got my period 6 weeks after I gave birth! As for having sex, I wouldn't worry to much about it. My husband and I had unprotected sex 5 weeks after I gave birth to each of our kids and nothing came of it! If your concerned call your doctor for advice! Hope this helps and congrats on your new baby!

Women who don't breastfeed find that their cycles resume very quickly -- as early as four to ten weeks after childbirth. If, however, you meet the following three criteria, then your chances of ovulating are only about two percent:

Your menses have not returned
You are fully or nearly fully breastfeeding
Your baby is less than six months old
I personally bleed for about 2 weeks and then i gave birth than got my period a month later...

I had my second child October 15th 2010, I stopped bleeding at four weeks and 3 weeks later at 7 weeks I started my first period. It is different with each person and pregnancy. I wouldn't worry too much. I've heard that with some women it takes months till they have their first period.

are you on birth control? the pill thats safe for breast feeding will delay it as well

Like they all said, but I'll add one other thing. As girls we're all told what our period is and how to handle it. We're told how babies are made. But we aren't really told what all happens the other 98% of the time. Check out your local library for some books on Natural Family Planning, Charting your Cycle, Billings Method... those are some key terms. It will help you learn how to know what your body is doing and if its prepping to reset back to your old cycles. It will also help you better understand what is going on normally and you'll be able to feel more in control.

Best of luck.

i had my son nov 30 2010 and i still have not had mine. everyones body is differant, but you are most likely to convcieve within the first month after you have your child because you hormones are in full swing, i would be a little more cautious and look for the pregnacy signs.goodluck

It took about 2 full months after giving birth for me. Just because your husband didn't finish, doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. Before a man ejaculates, he releases pre-ejaculate which does contain sperm. If you think you could be pregnant, have a test taken.

it can take a while to come back for some women and others it can come back sooner.

if there was no ejaculate its pretty safe to say you are most likely not pregnant.

Your hormones have just been through a few major rollercoasters and your body takes time to readjust itself and start ovulating again. Also , whether or not you are breastfeeding will affect your cycle. Some women will not resume their cycle at all while nursing, others it comes back when baby starts sleeping through the night. but do keep in mind, that you can still get pregnant. there is a way to use breastfeeding as birthcontrol, but it involves using your breast as a soother, comforting measure and any opportunity to suckle you can give the baby.

just wrap it up to be worry free until you get your period again then if you time your cycle and control conception that way etc, its up to you !
