Playtex Drop-In's...HELP!

I also use these bottles. I too agree its a pain not to be able to see how much he has drank but again the baby will let you know when they are ready. But the whole point of these bottles is to reduce the air intake, especially if your baby is primarily breast fed. I understand his frustration, but its better for you babies digestion to get the air out... Good luck!

thanks for the info! I guess I've just been taught by other mom's that you should push the air out, and I've noticed that personally when I push the air out it doesnt sound like he is "chugging" the milk, but when we dont push the air out he seems to be chugging or gulping the milk too fast. I dont know why that difference is present but nonetheless I push the air out because it makes me feel better to see the lack of air in the bottle. But I will stop harrassing my husband to do it when he feeds him his nighttime bottle seeing that there's no right or wrong way to use these bottles apparently. Thanks again!

I use the drop ins and have with both my daughters as they had bad gas and colic before I used these. I never pushed the air out the liner is designed to collapse to prevent less air and gas. I have a box of the liners right here in front of me and no where on the box does it say to push the air out.

I love the Playtex drop ins. But u need to take the air out. That is the whole purpose of the liners. Like you said if the baby moves the bottle out of his mouth or seems bored thenmamybe he needs to be burped or he is full.

My hubby was the same with the first baby so I told him that we use these bottles to simulate breastfeeding, he kinda got it then asked if he should just time the feeding then bc that was what I did while BFing...so he would burp every 10min of a bottle feed bc I did that while BFing.
Tell you hubby to push the air out and burp every 5min if he eats fast 10min if he eats slow.
The liner needs no air in it bc that makes it harder to suck the milk out, making it more like drinking from breast...in order for you to maintain successful BFing, bottle feeding needs to be as similar as possible! if he doesnt then it could cause problems for you feeding him from the breast..he doesnt want that to happen does he?

I used them with both kids and didnt push the air out. Didnt seem to make that much a diffrence if I did or not. Let him do it his way hes bonding. PS those other bottles I tried them and they were a big pain in the butt.

We dont push the air out, we buy the collapsable liners so we dont need to push the air out.

I had the same problem with my husband! I resorted to just letting him do it his way and after baby puked on him enough time, he finally realized that he needed to take the air out. I also showed him that he just has to open the bottle and...wha la!...you can see how much he has eaten! You could also say to him to just pay attention to the clock and burp him after 2 or 3 minutes or whatever the average might be for your baby. Hope this helps!

i used the drop ins with my daughter who is now 2. but i had the same problem. what i learned is they do collapse and that works fine but when i pushed the air out she had a hard time getting out the milk. so you can do it either way, justt do whats best for you. if you really want to help with gas dr. brown bottles work amazing.

Glad you got it worked out and to Clacy I am the parent to my child and I choose not to push the air out and my pediatrcian said it is not required. I am doing what I feel is best that's all I know how to do. You do what you think is best.

This is a man we are talking about...just because the box says something doesnt mean a darn thing to him. I think I might have convinced him how to properly use the bottles though after going out and spending x amount of money on brand new playtex vent aire bottles only to find that the latex nipples do NOT work in them, they seem to collapse BAD, so that was money wasted and my husband didnt like that...so i told him "well I wont continue to waste money on trying out other bottle types if you will start to use the drop ins the correct way"...I think it finally made sense after that! Thanks!

It says right there on the bottle liner box, how to properly put in the liner. You ARE suppose to push the air out before you feed the bottle to your child. It prevents them from getting air bubbles in their bellies which cause them to have gas.

Wish I had a different answer but I too use these and at first we did push the air out but now we do not. My daughter's doctor said it was not necessary because like Jennifer stated the liner collapes and they are really not getting that much air. Sorry that is probably not what you wanted to hear. i havent changed mine out but if you can find ones that have the same size base then i dont see why not. the style nipple does not affect the way the bottle works. Good luck

can you use the latex nipples with the vent-aire? that's the nipple he prefers...he doesnt want anything to do with the silicone nipples??

I use them as well, but we dont always push all the air out either. I have noticed though that as my son sucks them, he doesnt get much air as it just collapses the liner, but my son is eating 4oz in the 4oz bottles. As for your husband, if he is anything like mine then its hard to get them to change the way they do things. If it would make you feel better switch the the vent air bottles. I use those as well and they work great also. Hope this helps some.
