Please take all medical advice with caution!

It has come to my attention that moms are asking about a lot of medical information or advice. I think that it's great to have communication from other moms about anything that has to do with what has worked for them and all that. Please do not do anything that may affect your child or children without talking to your own medical doctor first. Things that may work for other children may be harmful or could even cause death for others. This is very important. If we feel or if you feel that some advice given may be harmful please let us know right away and we will act on it. Once again, DO NOT CHANGE OR DO ANYTHING WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR FIRST!!

I so agree...just like every pregnancy every child is different as well. I think as moms we have to be smart and always use caution. Its a great place to ask but advice is just that..."advice " and it shall always be thought through b4 you go through with any advce you are given:)

Just wondering if there are any moms out there that are familiar with DBA *diamond blackfan anemia*? I have a friend whose child has DBA and i am trying to work on a fundraiser/benefit for her. Any suggestions are welcome :)

i agree with that, but also in saying that i have an 8 month old daughter, i had an emergenvy c section because her heart stopped, ever since i have had bad cramps pains, and spasms and no doctor has done nothing about it. three weeks ago a friend suggested pcos, polysystic ovarian syndrome, i went to the doctors and they told me i had gone un diagnosed for 4 years, having all the symptoms. now because doctors hadnt picked up on it, or listened to my symptoms i am unable to concieve anymore children.

Oh hun I am sorry about you condition. I know PCOS is a very very painful.

I must ask though are the same doctors that missed your condition the ones telling you that you will never be able to concieve again? The reason I ask is my cousin has had this condition since she was 12. They have even wanted to do a hysterectomy on her since she was 15.

She has been working with her doctor and he says there are treatments and some hormone therapy that will aid in her being able to concieve. She has one beautiful little boy, and is now working towards number two.

I want to add that you need to be very very careful if you have one of your cycsts burst to make sure things are draining well to avoid infection. If you feel you have had one burst and you start to get any symptoms you need to make sure to see your doctor right away to help prevent and or treat a possible infection.

I wish you the best!

I could not agree more. Take medical advise with a grain of salt! If you need medical advice, please see a doctor.

Completely agree! I have worked in the medical field and would still recommend speaking to a medical professional who has a history on you or your children before going through on advice or a suggestion from someone.

I beleive that is good advice, It is okay to ask for help but everything should be done they way it is suppose to be done. Get advice from the doctor.

I am sorry to hear about that. I have had my turn at quack doctors too. I was told when I was a teen that I would never have children. So I didn't worry about birth control with my boyfriend. I ended up pregnant when I was about to begin college. It was quite the surprise. My boyfriend and I have been together for 7 years and will be married for 2 on the 16th of this month. I feel your frustration with doctors. Not all of them know what they are talking about! Some are just worried about the money!!

I'd just like to add - *any* medical advice should be taken with caution, regardless of who it comes from. As a mom, I've had a few quack doctors too. If your gut doesn't agree, or it doesn't sound right, or the problem isn't getting better - get a second opinion.

This said, yeah - any medical advice you see, confirm with a professional. In Australia, there's usually a maternal child and health nurse line or the Nurse on Call line for questions if you don't have the money or time to actually see your doctor. Check local government agencies to see if any services like these exist in your area? It's free and only a phonecall away.

I agree 100% i ask my doctor first but they are not always right. When my oldest was 6 months i gave him carrots and he got this rash on his belly and the dr. told me it was Eczema but he was having an Allergic to carrots.

i completely agree! my daughter just got out from the hospital because of asthma, the doctor gave her different medicines than what i usually take when i have my own asthma attack..children reacts differently to medicines, it might work for your child but it might not work on others. a lot of factors have to be considered. moms just have to be careful.

Very true! I work in the medical field and there are things vary from child to child. I will say however get all the information from your doctor you can. Ask questions and write stuff down if you need to. When it comes to your child you can never know enough.

Good post :) I have to add that I really think it's great for people to share what has worked for them. I wouldn't try some of them but most are harmless. Thanks to the support of other moms, a potentially serious health condition was brought to my attention and is now being taken care of.

Well said! And I agree! What works for others may not work for us. I've already received a lot of advice that I've known instinctively doesn't apply to me or my baby. Take it all as knowledge of someone else's experience, not necessarily applicable to you at this time and most importantly to trust in our Mommy instincts. Women have been doing this before there were tests and Ultrasounds and doctors as we know them. We have everything we need to know inside of us, we just need to tap into it and trust ourselves. We know, we just sometimes doubt ourselves and our lack of experience and find it comforting to trust in a source we know to be reliable but we don't want to take it as Gospel and Fact. From my mind to yours (Love)

Great post Missy and so true I have seen so much dangerous advice been given it makes me cringe, it may have worked for your child but not neccesarily for all would you share a perscription that was given to another child. NO!!! I hope but serious medical advice should be advised from your doctor for your child, after all they are all differant.
