My husband and I tried to conceive last week a couple of times...I usually start my peiod around the 20th. So I am a couple days late! I took a prenancy test, but it said negative..could it be too early to test even though I should have started already??

Generally you ovulate about 14 days prior to your period. So TTC a week before your period would most likely be unsuccessful. I'd recommend you try an ovulation predictor kit for next month, so you'll get the timing right. Good luck to you!

The tests are meant to pick up on the hcg hormone. The over the counter tests are cheap so they aren't as sensitive as the blood test. I was 5 weeks prego when I took my one and only test and it was positive. The blood work confirmed it that week. Keep your had up and check out my monthly cycle.com it's awesome for charting and getting prego. You can also get apps for your cell phone :)

Thanks for all the help everyone! I am a little disappointed to say that I started this morning! :( I guess it will happen when it is meant to! Just a little disappointing when you think you might be!

When I was pregnant with my daughter I got negatives all the way till the end. The blood tests showed I was pregnant, but the ones I did at home didn't work. The last pregnancy I had I was feeling pregnancy and had the same problems. Some people just don't test well with home tests. I would suggest a blood test. They are the most accurate.

all the pregnancy test I ever took told me it was negative with my first son and with this pregnancy with this one I had a felling I was because I just felt super tired and I knew the feeling from my first pregnancy I took 4 tests over 2 months and they all said negative so I finally had one taken at the doctor and by then I was already over 8 weeks pregnant

I would try again. My friend got 3 false negatives before going to the doctor and getting a blood test. That is usually the best bet and the most accurate!

The way my doctor put it is you can always get a false negative, but you can never get a false positive. It took me about two week to after conception to get a positive test. So I'd wait and try again. Good Luck!

No it's not too early however you may have gotten a false negative. I took a test 5 days before my missed period and got a positive result so I can't imagine it's too early being you're 8 days late. Get a blood test if you want to be 100%.
