Pregnant with Mirena? Could it be? Should I take a test?

Hey everybody, My name is Christina. I had my daughter 8 1/2 months ago. After I had her, my husband and I decided on the Mirena IUD (I have never been on any kind of birth control before). I kept having my period on time, only lighter. Then last month I missed but I did not think anything of it, because the doc said it might happen. Then this month I missed again. Again I was not concerned. About three days ago, I realized I have been very tired, almost like I can not get enough sleep. I told my husband, but he just told me to go take a nap and he would watch the baby. I slept for 3 hours!!! Now for the last hour or so I have started feeling some light cramps in my lower abdomen. I was just wondering if I should take a test, or is this normal? Have any of you gotten pregnant with mirena?

I have mirena 2, had some cramps for first few mons, period got lighter, now don't have one. But that is what the dr said would happen everyone is different though. you are also supposed to ck it and make sure it's in the right spot it can come out, i've had mine almost 5 yrs , the part that scares me is removal.

Hey ladies, thank you all for the advise. I took 2 at home test, both were negative. I went to my appointment this morning, and they tested me. The urine test was negative, so they took blood, I have to call in the morning for the results.

i would take the test to make sure and plus i had a friend who was on mirena and she had terrible cramping with it and it ended up falling out and the ends of it scraped her urterus and the hormones ended up stayin in uterus so its like shes on birth control but doesnt have to take the supplement so i would really take the test and if you are to schedule an appt and get it taken out because it could cause a miscarriage

Thank you guys for the help, I will take the test and let everyone know what is going on. Like I said the doc can't see me until Friday. But I will take an over the counter one just for my peace of mind. Again, thank you all for your help and support.

I would get tested just in case! i personally don't have mirena and don't plan on using it after I have my baby! but a friend of mine has it right now! she had some light spotting early on and now she doesn't even really get a period... which her dr told her was normal! but if i were you i would take a test just to make sure because it can be harmful to your baby! my mom's friend had mirena and she got pregnant while on it! her dr told her that it was normal to not have a period so she didn't think twice when her's stopped... come to find out she was pregnant and the baby's cells had formed around the mirena... so her baby had the mirena inside her head when she was born! needless to say the baby didn't live very long! that was enough to scare me into not getting mirena... i wouldn't want to feel responsible for my child having to go through something like that!

One of my friends got pregnant with Mirena. She is about 28 weeks now. Yes it can happen since Birth Control is never 100% preventable. I would take a test or talk to your doctor.

When I had my mirena insterted my OBGYN told me that if I THINK I'm pregnant I need to come in within 48 hours for a blood test and to have it removed if I am pregnant. I had spotting for 2 months after having it inserted and have not had a period since. I Take a pregnancy test every 2 months though just for my own comfort. I was irregular prior to the IUD. I got pregnant on "the pill" so we decided the IUD would be my best option because even "on the pill" I had horrible hard and semi-irregular periods (would skip a month) I love not having periods and the money I save on pads/tampons more then pays for the occasional pregnancy test.

You should absolutely take a test. If you are pregnant, the IUD could be life threatening to you and the fetus. Better safe than very sorry.

First i dont have it,but yes you still can get pregnant with the mirena.I would as soon as possible take a test and get to the doctor the sooner the better. You need it removed if you are to allow the baby to grow. Not to scare you.I would go to the er and make sure waiting isn't fair on you and i cant believe the asked you to wait.

cramping and irregular to even not having a period is normal, i havent had a period in months! its because it thins the lining in your uterus so you could have light spotting to no period, but yes you can get pregnant on it, it is rare but it does happen, thing is though if you do get pregnant on it you have a 85% chance of miscarriage when they remove it, and if you are pregnant you have to get it removed because it can cause harm to you and your baby, but like i said it is very rare that that happens and 9 times out of 10 women that do get pregnant on it dont know it and end up with a miscarriage with out even knowing it, i got pregnant on it i found out when i was 2 weeks pregnant when i had to go in for some blood tests, the doctor was going to have me come back the next day in the afternoon to remove it, the next morning i miscarried and they decided not to remove it, with any and all birth controls there is a failure rate but its usually low so dont let this discourage you

I HAVE 4 CHILDREN BEIN ON BIRTH CONTROL.BUT, I LOVE EVERY MINUTE BEGIN WITH THEM I'M GLAD I HAVE THEM. BUT, MOM TOLD ME THAT GOD IS THE ONE THAT BLESS YOU WITH THE CHILDREN. SO THAT MEANS HE WANTED YOU TO HAVE ANOTHER.

I have the Mirena IUD also, and get occasional cramps. My periods are irregular and that's normal. You can take a test to ease your mind, but it is highly unlikely that you're pregnant.

I called and made an appointment, but they can't see me until next Friday. They said if the cramping got bad to go to the ER.

i had this same problem on mirena i dont mean to sound graphic but has your doctor ever mentioned your cervix being posterior or during the placement did it feel more like it pinched than cramped... the reason i am asking is because i had the same issues and mine turned into a pain that made me unable to work. comes to find out the mairena had embeded its self into my uturis wall... removal was horible. you may need to go to ur obgyn and ask them to do an ultra sound to check the placement.

Good luck
