Problem with my IUD (Mirena)

I had my mirena inserted in 2010 so I had it in for like 2 years. I had it removed 2 weeks ago cuz I was tired of all the side effects I was having such as extreme weight gain (I went from 135 to 190 in 2 years), metallic taste in my mouth, severe bloating, cramping, very low sex drive, extreme hair growth (all over), tired all the time, nauseated all the time, etc..... (the list goes on and on!!!) In the words of my hubby "this thing simulates pregnancy!!!" I couldn't take it any more!! I would rather be Prego and have a reward in 9mnths than go through this again!! O and on top of all this I couldn't find my strings so I went to the dr and he couldn't find them either!! So they did an ultra sound to find out that it was too far up!! So that same day they was able to put me to sleep dilate my cervix ad remove it!! Like I said it has been two weeks since removal and I have been really emotional (example: I was watching a comedy today and just started crying for no reason),non stop bleeding, my sex drive has still never gone up, and I'm always tired(no matter how much I sleep) and, I'm constantly wanting to eat sweets!!! Hopefully this goes away soon cuz I have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old and I can't keep feeling like this!!!

I have had mine in since 2009, and I love it! Everyone is different and while some will have problems with it, others will not. I was thinking about getting the Essure out in, but I have not researched it enough. Does anyone have the Essure?

it made me mad that now I want mine taken out but i have to come up with 200 however in warsaw indiana they have a family clinic kinda like plant parent that because of our income I get it taken out for free and if my husband did make more then the most I would have to pay is $30
look into a clinic around whatever town u are from

Hi, I am super late on this topic. But I thought what the hay. I have had my Mirena since Feb 2010 after my son was born. I have had been diagnosed with PID in the past , but my doctor said oh its ok. So they put it in and wow I cramped like crazy. I also have endometriosis so I was telling myself this will pass. Well since I got this I have been to doctor after doctor for depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, and my husband says " You have 2 moods, Irritated and quiet, or just mean. Never did over this time it dawn on me that this couldve been my issue all along. You know that feeling you have when you know something isnt right, like your mad inside but for what. I have been struggling with this and all doctors think Im just depressed. Also I have had a huge cyst on my ovary 7 times since. I will get tis stabbing pain in my low abdomen and back and I know what it is now. Each time I go back to my Gyn. Once it was 4cen/6cen. Also my insurance didnt tell me that if I wanted to take it out Ill have to pay 500 bucks. But they will cover putting it in. Only if I can make the Gyn say it is hurting me...confused doesnt it seem like it is?

how do you check for it? doctor never told me and after it was it they never had me back in to make sure it was still in the right spot....I have had in it since march and i have lower pains along with it hurts to have sex making it so I cant

I also have Mirena. I have had it for a little over a year. Although, I have had absolutely no problems with my Mirena IUD. Only slight discomfort the first few days after having it inserted. I have had maybe 3 or 4 periods since getting it, only lasting a day or two. I ask my husband every now and again after *ahem* if he can still feel the strings. But other than that it's been great. I would def. go see a dr. although I can't imagine it falling out since it's inserted into your cervix...

I had the Mirena IUD also and although the convenience of not having to take a pill or use a condom was nice, I had alot of discomfort too. I would also bleed for weeks at a time. I used like 7 or 8 whole boxes of tampons in the first 4 months of having the thing. Another thing was I could not partake of some of the "positions" that I once enjoyed because it caused me pain... my opinion... take it out!!!

Couldn't help myself, I was on the shot for something like 8 years and loved it, how ever i was told that being on it for more than 3 years can lead to serious osteoperosis. I was kinda strong-armed into geting the IUD. I had the usual spotting and cramping for the first couple days then it was gone. I have had it now for about 4 months, and although I have recently had a touch of dizzynes (I think its just from being over worked, underslept, not eating right, and not taking my Vitamins.) My dr. told me that if I was experiancing any discomfort that was not relieved with tylonal or lasts more than 3 consec. days to come back and have the placement checked, although abnormal it can move and cause some pain. I personaly plan on having more kids, so when it comes to down there, I don't take chances. I would, at the very least, have the placement checked and talk with the dr. if you are not sure.

i would so get it taken out that is the only thing that is going to make it stop hurting.. they also cause cervical cancer too

I had an IUD for 5 years and loved it. I never had a period or a problem with the mirena iud, it was great. I would definately get checked out if it fell out though becuase if it isn't taken out properly it can do some serious and permanent damage.

i have an IUD and sometimes it can cause a little discomfort when you get in infection from it. bacterial vaganosis is very common when you have and IUD in but if you noticed that it was gone then you should definately go to the doctors because it should not have dislodged itself and you dont want to end up pregnant

I have the Mirena coil too, and it is very reassuring reading all of the above comments. I have been experiencing mild cramps on my left side, i thought it was grumbling appendix! I have also been experiencing dizzy spells and mild depression/ anxiety. I am making an appointment to have mine removed now, as these are clearly real side effects of my Mirena IUD!

well if it fell out will you not have to o et a new one anyway? I personally am not into the hole implants thin i prefer the injection, it works great for me once every three months, doctor calls to tell me when its due, no periods no weight gain no hasstle, and if you have any problems like endometriosis (which could be the cause of your pain) it takes care of that too! !

i had problems with my mirena iud and had it removed after 3 weeks. i got dizzy, tired, spotted way too much to make sense for use of birth control, and the cramping was terrible. i couldn't take care of my daughter. the day after i had it taken out ALL symptoms subsided. i quit bleeding within 3 days and could not be happier. good luck!

also i have had the iud since september of 2008 so its not like im still getting used to it. i havnt had periods since dec of 08, except jan 2010 i bled for 2 days (lightly) this is the reason i suspect i might be pregnant, but iud's have been known to throw off home pregnancy tests.

i have this birth control too. ive had all kinds of problems with mirena, lots of unusual pain etc. but i dont have insurance and the hospital will not remove it without insurance. recently, with any type of vaginal penetration, i bleed. the first time this happened i bled for two weeks. (this was about a month and a half ago) at this very moment it feels like i have a constant cramp on the left side of my lower abdominal area. im really worried that im either pregnant or that the iud has damaged something internally. any tips on how to get insurance quickly ? im in the middle of applying for AHCCS but i have already been denied once.

Yes go to the dr to have it checked. I started having problems with my mirena iud after about a year of having it in and sure enough it had moved out of place, which wont protect you against pregnancy. I had it removed because it was causing me to much pain and I went back on the pill.....Good luck!!

i have the IUD also Yes you should go to the doc...I just had mine put in this month and she says that if it comes out or you dont feel your threads that you need to go to the doc. SO if i were you i would be making an app right now. Sorry to hear about it tho..I havent had any problems wit mine besides some light cramping and spotting but thats normal

I have an IUD too and if it were me, I would get it checked out. It's not supposed to be painful down there. Good luck... very sorry to hear about it.
