My youngest is ERF 20 months 23lbs 32in in a roundabout 50 that RF until 35lbs so we have awhile to go yet i hear so many people complaining about ERF it's nice to finaly hear people say they are all for it

Anna how much does that seat run? I want to keep my son rear facing for as long as possible. I'm sure a lot of people would if they knew the dangers

We are an extended rear-facing family!!! I'm a huge believer in rear-facing as long as possible for all the reasons everyone else has mentioned.

In fact, JUST TODAY, I received my son's brand new Sunshine Kids Radian XT SL, which has a 45 POUND rear-facing weight limit! It's such an awesome seat, every bit as awesome quality as any of our Britax seats, but such a higher rear-facing weight limit. I'm hoping to make it AT LEAST 3 years before turning him forward-facing.

Keep 'em rear-facing, everyone, and if you forward-face your toddler, turn them back around! They'll thank you for it later! ♥

I'm a huge fan on extended rear facing. Like others have said it takes time! for those muscles/tendons/bones to become strong eough to hold up those heavy heads ;) in an accident. Much rather have a broken leg(although no cases have ever been documented) then a broken neck.



I did try the My ride 65 for my 2 yr old but she was already at the height limit for it :( There are taller shelled seats out there but they are expensive. Since our litle girl was 25mos, 29lbs, and 36 inches we felt comfortable going ahead and turning her forward facing. I must say though that I was kinda sad my 'baby' wasnt such a baby anymore lol

My ex sister in law turned my nephew around when he was 6 months old because she said his legs touched the back of the seat and he could break his legs in a crash. My son is still facing backwards and will for as long as i can keep him that way i only want whats best for him.

Here is another excellent video that shows an actual child. His mother turned him around at age 1 like the law allows. He was 18 months and 30 lbs when the crash occurred. Even at that age and weight, his little neck wasn't strong enough to keep his head in place. This is why we should all reconsider when we think about turning our children around when they hit that year mark!

I completely agree cassie. In the article it said that even if a child's legs are bent it is ok for them to be raer facing. And like you said I would rather my child have a broken leg than a broken neck

Actually Sabrina, there are no documented cases of an infant or toddler breaking a leg from rear facing. Their bones are still very flexible. There are however, thousands of cases of children's necks breaking when they are turned forward facing.

Even if there were cases of a child's leg being broken from rear facing. I would rather my daughter be alive with a broken leg than dead or paralyzed from a broken neck because I turned her around before her neck was strong enough to support an impact.

I don't know, I was told that once my sons legs reached out farther than the backseat to turn his carseat to forward facing. If their legs are long enough & you get in an accident their legs can break or actually be crushed from the force of the accident. That's why it is recomended to turn their seat to forward facing after they hit a certian hieght(varies from carseat to carseat)

There are also tons of videos on Youtube that show what will happen to a child when they are rear faced too early. It is eye opening. I have never understood why parents are so quick to rush to turn their children around, so the child can see out the front window? it's easier on the parents? It is UNSAFE to turn a child around before their little bodies are ready.



My daughter is almost 16 months and is still rear facing. She will remain that way for several more months if not longer. She doesn't know any different, is able to see out the side and rear windows, has a mirror attached to the back seat so that we can see her and she can see us, and most of all, she is SAFE!
