My 5month old daughter is currently suffering from reflux..its an absolute nightmare. i am literally at my wits end, we have tried everything from thickening the bottles to changing her milk. Shes has already had a scan of her tummy to ensure she has hasnt got pyloric stinosis (where the muscle in her tummy is too thick to allow food to pass) as morgan is suffering really badly with the reflux she isnt putting on a lot of weight. shes only weighing in at 14lb 6 and shes 5months.

please help as all advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

All good suggestions, but I actually found the swing or any major motion esp. after a feed makes my son's reflux worse and he usually ends up projectile vomiting after. Also, try when you are sitting baby up not to bend them too much at the waist, and when you are changing them, roll them side to side to wipe etc. because lifting their legs can make it worse

My little girl had reflux for the first 6 weeks (and it was the longest 6 weeks of our lives). We found that sitting her up for 30mins after each feed and chocking one end of her cradle up (we put bricks under the legs of one end to have her sleeping on an angle) helped (our dr wouldn't give her anything as she was gaining weight and was otherwise healthy). The dr also suggested smaller and more frequent feeds (which I refused to do as she was feeding 2-3 hourly as it was). But we were told that it was something that she would grow out of (not what you want to hear when you haven't had any sleep for the last 4 weeks!)

My daughter is 4months and has reflux our pediatrician put her on liquid zantac and my dr told me to put 1teaspoon of rice cereal for every ounce of formula or milk! And she sits up to eat and i put her in her bouncy chair for like 15min before laying her down or anything! and this has helped her but my doctor also said its something she will have to out grow theres nothing that works 100% that she would still spit up a tiny bit and he was right she does on occasion spit up a small amount but its a lot better!

Oh ya also have you had a liquid barrium test done? It's like a thick liquid they drink in a special chair so they can see at what point it starts coming back up.

You have to make sure you sit her up for 20 minutes after a feed. My doctor and parents told me that and I was like nooo it can't be that but it would have helped so much more. That and smaller feeds more often. Definitely look into the medication too.

My son had awful reflux. He had the scan for pyloric stinosis 3 different times. We finally took him to the er bc he was not keeping anything down. They refereed him to a GI dr who prescribed zantac that didn't work great they then prescribed something else I cant for the life of me remember what. We tried thickening the formula that didn't work so then they put him on Simliac Almentium it's already partly broken down so they can digest it easier. It's a lot more expensive but you can get a prescription for it then most health insurance will cover it. Our biggest problem was getting the reflux medicine to stay down we were in the ER a couple times a month getting the med's threw IV. We also had our son sleep in his swing for almost the 1st year of his life bc the incline seemed to help. Good luck!!

my daughter threw up a lot when she was a baby, but her ped refused to diagnose her with reflux because she was growing like a weed, gaining weight like crazy and was a very happy and quiet baby. but the thing that helped her the most was her swing. i would sit her in it after she ate and sitting up for a little bit helped keep her meal down. she would usually fall asleep or just sit in it and listen to the music. we have a graco swing and it has 6 speed settings and plays about 10 classical music clips and has a mobile and adjustable recline 3 positions. its great and if you need a swing i highly recommend it. it also plugs in or uses batteries.

I would ask for a prescription for a reflux medication from your doc. We did all that in combination with I believe a child's dose of Nexium and it worked. It tastes horrible, but it really does work wonders. My son had an immature flap in his throat that would not close all the way and by the time he was a year old he was perfectly fine and able to go off of the medicaiton!
