With what Sara and Jen are saying I would switch. My dr. did say once that rice cereal isn't all that good for them anyway and that oatmeal was better. But if you choose to try other solids you can add a little bit of prune puree to the cereal as well. If you are still concerned I'd call the nurse and ask what they would recommend.

Switch to the oatmeal cereal. It is less likely to cause constipation. My daughter didn't have a problem, but her doctor said if she did then the oatmeal cereal is better for them. My daughter enjoyed all of the baby cereals.

ooooo, yup that will cause him to get constipated. Mix in some apple, pear, prunes, give him more water or juice. don't worry about the milk at some meals. Good luck.

my little one had the same problem, i called the dr he said to stop using the rice, but if i did that she wouldnt sleep as long at night and stopped taking a bottle all together! We switched over to oatmeal and also would give her 1 oz of prune jucie (mixed with some water) and after like a week of that she became regular!!! good luck!

My daughter had a little constipation on rice cereal, so the pediatrician has us give her oatmeal instead. She said if they do well on rice cereal as far as no allergic reactions then they are fine to start oatmeal.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it was very feedback. I'm going to give him another day or so to see if this issue clears up because he is still able to go to the bathroom, however he was struggling a bit and the stool was dry. I am also gonna call the doc to discuss the switch to oatmeal.

we just skipped cereal and moved on to veggies and fruits. Rice cereal really has no nutrional value and all it really did was upset my son's stomache and he hated it, so why bother??

Rice cereal can cause constipation. I would stop feeding that to him. How old is he? You might ask your pediatrician if you can do oatmeal instead or skip the cereals and go straight to veggies and fruit. He/she can also advise you on how to fix the constipation.

We didn't have that problem. But how thick or thin are you mixing the cereal and how much of it is your little one eating?
