My daughter is beautiful and clearly my WORLD, however this talk about her being fat and saying that her clothes make her look ugly is really starting to worry me. I always tell her i love her and that she looks really pretty etc, as far as i know i'm doing all the things to build her esteem. I should mention here that she does not have weight issues she is a normal healthy weight for her age. I'm just really starting to pull my hair out. Can anybody help? Is there anyone else experiencing this? Last question i promise lol when did all this crap start so young???

I watched an interview on the Today Show with this author of "You'd be so Pretty if..."; it's about building your daughter's body image/self esteem by starting with your own. Here is her site:

Remember that your daughter watches and learns how you feel about yourself, even just the little looks you give yourself in the mirror! Make a conscious effort to give yourself little "compliments" in front of her (i.e. "Man! I love how I look in these jeans!" or "I love my new haircut, it feels and looks great!", things like that).

See I have no bloody idea where it is coming from, she is in daycare two days a week as i study and she cannot start school till next yr. I have spoken to her preschool teachers, all adults that are in her life, outside of school there aren't all that many children that she interacts with. I'm not one to sit in front of her and flog at myself in front of the mirror, she frequently gives other ppl compliments, and she can accept compliments reasonably well. I don't like to think it is an attention thing as she is an only child and has my full attention. AAArrrgggg i'm lost i didn't hit any of this till i was like 16!

what a nasty situation, i remember going through this as a kid, but my daughter is not old enough to get it yet. is it kids or adults making these comments? if i were you, i would address whoever is making these comments as they make them. sometimes a simple "that's not appropriate" and then changing the subject may work. good luck!
