Maybe he needs ocupational therapy. In the mean time just try to accomidate him by always having a hat with a visor on it, sunglasses, a little ice pack to hold when he feels too hot, and ear plugs or ear mufflers. If he learns that he can conrtol the way the world afects him by useing these items than maybe he will stop getting so upset and start to grow out of it.

My son has Sensory Integration problems. Mostly because he is in the Autistic spectrum (which is a huge spectrum, by the way). Your son sounds a lot like him. We found wonderful resources with Child Find and Early Intervention. I don't know if you are in the states or if this is even offered in all states, but our doctors were the same way. They wanted to pass the buck. We found lots of support from those organizations. He has had tons of speech therapy, in-home therapy and occupational therapy and has been attending school since he was 3 (in special needs classes) and is still, at 7 years old, in special programs through the local public schools system (McKay scholarship) and he is doing much better! Up until this year we still struggled with major meltdowns on occasions, but he seems to have grown out them now. He is still very emotional and sensitive, but the meltdowns have gone away!

I hope your son is just going through a phase and is not going through any of these things, but if he does have sensory problems, I hope you get support soon. Look up things through your public school system, etc.

I hope this helps.

I did ask about autism and they said no he probably has ADHD. We are in the process of finding a new Ped since she seems to not really care or even really interact with him when he has a meltdown. I have thought he had some form of autism since he was born but I have very little info and unexperienced Dr.s in this town. Oh, and no I would not take that the wrong way. I have been telling people he is just special, the way God intended him to be, cause I get so many looks when he is out doing his thing. I hope to find a Dr and make his life better for him. Thank You for your advise!

Did you talk to your doctor? Don't take this the wrong way, please, but if he has been like that since 6 mos it could be a form or autism or very well a sensory issue. Mention it to your ped and he may do a few tests to see. He also may have you work with an occupational therapist. I have 2 autistic nephews so I have seen a lot of it. Both of them have made big turn arounds and are getting easier to manage. One is almost 3 The other is 12. The 3 yr old is a work in progress the 12 yr old is doing pretty good! Just stay strong and stay calm. You will get a lot more accomplished that way. I wish you the best.
