Should i trust the doctor?

I recently had a problem with my daughter and they kept on saying it was all viral. She has had a rash for bout 6 weeks now. So finally they said she had an allergic reaction to amoxicilan after i switched her dr. I felt the whole time her dr was wrong so thats why i switched. Your her mom and you have that instinct so if you feel that it is something else i would find a new dr.

Viruses don't cause ear infections. Those are bacterial. However, when someone has a virus they are often more susceptible to a secondary infection by a bacteria.

I would absolutely go for a second opinion! If a baby gets a fever for teething, it shouldn't go above 101! If it's been that long, she obviously has something else going on the needs to be taken care of! I'd be changing doctors if I were you!!

I say if the Dr isnt helping and everything is the same or is getting worse take ur baby to the ER.

well this time they found an ear infection, so they gave me antibiotics, they also gave me albuterol for her wheezing...and this stuff wasnt here b4? according to the docs 2 diff ones the virus caused the ear infection ...really?

Bacterial infections are easy to treat viruses are not. Medicines don't do anything for a virus but there are some things you can do at home to help.
Put a pillow under the top end of your daughter's mattress so it is raised up (kind of like a wedge shape) to ease her coughing at sleep time.
Also take her in the bathroom when you have a shower as the steam will help clear her chest.
Give her extra breastmilk or regular sips of water to keep her hydrated.
After 6 days she shd be getting better & I wld def take her to another dr.
My bub had bronchiolitis at 7mths & I was terrified. I took her to the dr 4 times in 1 week til I got that diagnosis & she was treated properly - they originally said it was just a mild ear infection.
You can never be too careful with your babies & you know your bub better than anyone. Trust that you feel something is not ok. Hope she gets better very soon.

I would take her to the E.R. But there is a slim chance it could be a virus. My 3 kids got real sick for 7 days where their fevers got real high (103.7 and couldn't keep anything down at all. it was right around that swine flu scare so they didn't want me to bring them in. They told me to give them tylenol/motrin. After 3 hrs i could give them another dose. And not to give them anything to drink or eat unless they asked. They said when a child can't keep anything down, that pushing fluids for too long can get their stomaches all riled up and not have the chance to calm down. But they also warned me to take them to the E.r. if I got worried. They calmed me down and explained a lot of information about what was happening to them and signs to check for ect. They did much better after a few hrs. of not pushing fluids or food. Fluids are much better given by iv if they can't keep anything down at all. Hope she feels better soon.

I agree, head to the ER if the doctor isn't helping, even if it is a virus she might need IV support for the dehydration. She could even have a urinary tract infection, which is really common with toddlers and presents all kinds of ways. 3 days with a high fever is too much.

Go to the ER! My son had a high fever when he was 11 months old for 1 week and was coughing and struggling to breath. I knew something was not right and the doctor said that it was just a virus. I demanded an x-ray and brought him to the ER. He had pneumonia. If I didn't trust my instinct who knows what would of happened! Good luck!

I would def seek a second opinion from another doctor or hospital.. My daughter Ana went through the same thing and it the fever, vomiting and diarrhea was cause of her teething AND ear infections.. Especially with the ear infections. I was like.. All over ear infections,, really?? But that was it was. Have them check for that, and if not already, check for the flu for last part. Will keep your and the lil one in my prayers and I hope this helps.

Our son had RSV for a solid week, ran a temp. I put him on Motrin and Tylenol to keep his fever down to 99 for an entire week! He had to sleep sitting up. I'd just make sure she is on pedialyte if she is acting sleepy. I ran to it as a precautionary measure, as my son started to eat less. Probably no where near a dangerous drop of food in take but hey, I know what he eats and he didn't want to eat that much anymore so heck no, I went and gave it to him right away just to make sure.

Cough meds.... no antibiotics? Hmm..
I wouldn't worry much. I know it is scary......... so freaking scary. But just make sure you give her stuff like pedialyte to keep her electrolytes up and that she is eating well enough, peeing and pooping normally.... she should pull through. But I would go to the doctors in about 3 days again if she isn't still......... better safe than unsafe.

well they gave her cough meds and that about it she now is having low grade fevers? maybe from teething it hasnt gotten over 100...but they said give tylenol and the cough stuff but nothing came back on xray of chest, blood work , or urine..so i dunno? i am still concerned tho

Sounds like it is time to visit the ER Just if nothing else to make you feel better about it and also you know your child they only see them for well checks. Stick to your guns your mom and good luck.

If she is vomiting and has diarrhea and is extremely sleepy..I would take her to the ER. A couple years back, our son (he had to be 3 or so) had a horrible flu for a few days, but during those few days, he wasn't able to keep anything down (including water). I took him to the doctor and they said to just push fluids (which obviously wasn't working). I took him back the next day because I was getting scared. We couldn't keep him awake. They finally sent us to the ER where he was hooked up to an IV to be re-hydrated. Within minutes of starting the IV, he was talking to us again (he hadn't talked to us for probably 3 days at that point).

I would definitely take her to the ER before it gets any worse.

go for a second opinion ... i took my docter 3 times to the same doctore when she was screaming flat out and coughing she said it was teething and just a virus ... i knew it was something else so went the same day to a diff doctor to fine she had a burst ear drum and a severe ear infection ??? some doctors have no idea

Another vote for the ER. While most babies get sleepy when they are sick, combining it with a fever, vomiting and diarrhea then she needs to be seen ASAP

I'd say take her to the ER immediately! The fact that she has a fever along with vomiting and diarrhea signals something is going on. Hope your daughter feels better!

Another vote here for the ER, If nothing else, she may need rehydration through IV fluids.

Did you take her? What did they discover?

Take her the the ER. Something isn't right. I'm a nurse and I would have my kid in the ER immediately tonight if it was going on for 6 days and my pediatrician wasn't listening to me.

Visit to the ER would be best. 6 days is a long time for a little one and that fever is really high for a child.

take her to the hospital. now. especially if you've been giving her tylenol (or the like) and it hasn't helped the fever. plus the fact that she is vomiting and has diarhea.... something could be wrong and she needs to be seen ASAP. take her to the ER now.

I hope you've already taken her to another doctor or the ER. It could be the flu or something, but if the fever isn't being controlled by medicine and she's lethargic, she needs help.

Yeh I would be taking my baby to the hospital for a second opinion if her fever was up for that many days! I've always been told that if it's up for more than 3 days then seek medical help...maybe you could request to see a different doctor?

Personally I would take my child to the ER for a second opinion. I've always been told by our son's pediatrician that if a fever last more than 3 days then we need to look further into the illness. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.

6 days seems like a long time... do you think the higher fever could be associated with getting a bit dehydrated? If your child refuses pedialyte here is a recipe for electrolyte restorer that we think tastes better. (I can actually get my daughter to drink) 1 quart water 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 can frozen orange juice concentrate 2 tablespoons white sugar. mix and serve.
