Smoking marijuana during pregnancy

Before my pregnancy, I smoked marijuana on a regular basis, mainly as a substitute for anti-depressants, and to help with pain (I have scoliosis and a thyroid disease that causes joint pain). As far as I know, there have never been any conclusive studies saying that smoking marijuana during pregnancy is harmful to the child, but I was wondering if anyone on here had experience with this. Did you smoke through your pregnancy and have a healthy child? Or did the opposite happen?

And please, if you disagree with the usage of marijuana that is fine and you are entitled to your opinion, but I didn't post this to start an argument. I am looking for real answers. Thank you.

I did a tad bit of research and those seemed like the best sites. If you can get by without it, I would give it up simply because it is healthier for your baby. And judging by the fact that you're probably using a medical grade marijuana, you shouldn't have the problem with it being laced with something else so that's not really a big issue. I know there are pain killers that are not necessarily "safe" to use during pregnancy but are considered safer. I have Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis and stopped taking my medications. They were all class C or higher and I didn't want to risk anything. I talked it over extensively with my doctor and we came to an agreement that if I absolutely needed to be on them, I would go back on them. But I never needed them again! My son is now 17 months and I'm in my 19th week of this pregnancy and last week I have my first flare up in almost 2 years! It was so incredibly mild though that all I needed was a nap and some Tylenol.

Talk to your doctor! See what effects pregnancy can have on your disease and find out directly from him/her what the possible effects could be of the marijuana on your child. With mine, things were going to either bet better or worse and they got better and I've not needed to go back on my meds.

You have to do what's best for you and your child. And part of what's best right now is talking to your doctor! Not just your OB but also your PCP. If this is a therapy for an ongoing condition, you'll need to stay in close contact with both doctors to make sure you're healthy and your baby is healthy. Hopefully all goes well! I'm sorry I couldn't give any personal experience, but hope it helped none the less!

There are a lot of studies that show it can cause depression in children when they are older.
