Standing up to PEE!!

What a topic you moms are discussing about, "boys stand or sit to pee"! So let me tell you some thing then, not bad if you know that in my culture the male people avoid pissing while standing! In my country it's so, as my religion has recommended not to pee while standing, and to do it while sitting or squatting. I know there, they teach the kid when he can stand up, how to pee while standing, but it's not so here. However, I am male and quite healthy, but I don't pee while standing. You should consider that there are many different ways and theologies around the world.



To my own, peeing while standing is a nasty actions, also it does not feet a man's character, that's like you imagine a respectable man standing up still some where, his penis is out and his piss line in front of him! Who made the rule that males MUST stand up while urinating? And don't relate it to the nature, potentially many things are natural as an ability; one can bring it out (gun), aim and kill, but he has choosing power, although he has the ability, but he may not do it if he is sane; one can just bring it out, aim and piss, but does it mean he can not do it in a way but that?



Why stand to pee? Why aim? Aiming is for the time when you are distant to your target and can't be close to it, but when you can be close to it, and if you are sane, you prefer being close to your target than aiming to the target. So sit down and be relax, the name of the place you are doing that in, is rest room! And why you waste your time and energy in cleaning bathrooms? You can save it for more useful affairs by reducing the need of bathroom to be cleaned!



As for those who say "peeing while standing is of a few pleasures of a man!", I should say that a man is more valuable than way of peeing places as his pleasure and property! It does not fit a man to consider that as his worth! Men have more valuable special abilities to be mentioned! And as for those who say "peeing while standing is much easier than doing it while sitting or squatting", I should say that bending over and pulling down pants, and keeping a part of panties down for a while and aim for a while both need an attempt; and the fact that which one is easier for a person depends on habit. The way in which one's habit is based on, is easier for that one, and to which you habit, it will be easier for you! As God has made the ability of peeing while standing easily in guys, it must have an advantage, and yes it has. In men's jobs some times urgent situations happen, and some times they have to do some thing in a short time when the speed is important, and some times men have situations that they can't sit or squat or are in places where sitting or squatting is not easily possible; in such times they can use their ability of peeing while standing easily. But these urgent times just some times happen, not always! So I think there should be a project for men to stop, or to say better, manage peeing while standing. However, it will be great if the current way of peeing of guys in toilets and bathrooms, in the most parts of the world changes.

lol neither of us "taught" our son how to pee standing up. he just did it on his own. he was potty trained on a little potty so when he started standing to pee, he would kinda squat over it to aim lol hes finally big enough to aim into the big potty now!

I started this recently, DS is 3 1/2 and has been very difficult to potty train, I am 37 weeks and it is starting to hurt to pick him up (he is 41lbs) and put him on a public toilet the have to squat and hold him so he doesn't fall in. Also I don't like him sitting on public toilets, so many are so nasty. So he is learning to stand and pee.

My Little guy learned standing up from the start. He always saw his dad and older brother do it like that so that is how he got started.

I did teach my first son how to stand on a stepstool and pee at 1 and half then once my second son was about 19 months old my first son showed him how to stend on the stepstool and pee in the pot

It doesn't seem to take boys long to learn to pee standing up. I think you could start working with him right away. I helped my son as well as his father so it doesn't have to just be the father teaching them. It is very helpful when outside too...LOL

Well once he's tall enough, might as well give it a shot. If he's not ready, wait a while and try again. Let him attend the bathroom with dad to see how it goes. And if he ends up being a sitter, it's not the end of the world :) Either way he gets to pee in the toilet, right?

Both my sons didnt really stand up to pee until almost 5 years (when they started school). And my 9 year old still chooses to sit down at home to pee. I asked him once why he sits still and he says he stands at school but chooses to sit at home. Again I asked why and he said he makes less of a mess that way and really he was probably just being lazy. Hehe! We both laughed at that! But I said by all means sit, less of a mess for me to clean up (unlike his 8 year old brother!! grrrrrrr!!)

But seriously I really think they will either do it when they are ready or otherwise get daddy to show them. Even my hubby admitted to sitting every now and then when he was feeling lazy! lol :)

It depends on how old he is and i'm sure if he sees daddy doing it enough he'll pick it up pretty quick. Oh and when teaching him put a small hand full of cheerios in there and tell him to aim at them, it will help lower the pee pee on the toilet lol

30 some years ago, my little man as soon as he could hike himself upon the toilet he sat backwards facing the wall...I think he was in 1st or 2nd grade of school before he turned himself around..and started standing...as long as they use the potty..what does it matter anyway....

We started potty training when my son was around 2.5. Dad was upset that I was teaching him to pee sitting down and decided to take matters into his own hands. He would hold it (yes, hold it) til our son had to pee and then they would run to the bathroom where we kept a small bowl of fruit loops, cheerios... whatever cereal we had, and the boys would pee on the cereal. Humerous... yes, did it work? YES! lol it was funny because later, when he no longer wanted mommy or daddy in the bathroom, I'd go in there and find colorful o's in the toilet... one of my friends (a single mom of a boy) ran into this problem so I told her to try it, and it worked for her too. She couldn't pee on the cereal standing up, but she encouraged her lil one to do so, and gave him prizes for doing so.

We're in the process of training our son and he refuses to sit on public toilets so he stands to pee then but otherwize he's still sitting.

I never bothered with sitting. I taught him to pee standing up, using fruit loops in the toilet to aim at. Was much more fun for him.

My son sat down at the beginning, when it was more of a game, but he tired of the potty very quickly, so when we started getting serious about it, I just put a little stool in front of the toilet, and he pees standing up. He still has to work on his aim, but so far I think he's doing OK. He's now 2 yrs and 9 months, and has just now been toilet trained.

My boys learned from walking in on their dad peeing. They just kinda picked up on it. To help with aim you can make a game of it by dropping a few cherios or small pieces of toilet paper (color w/marker 1st) tell him to hit the pieces. The toilet paper w/ marker on it will probably change color lol! My youngest was small and it was hard for him to get a good grip on his so we did have a while where I was cleaning pee off the walls and sometimes they would turn around or something and I'd have a mess all around the bathroom lol.

Since my husband is rarely home during the day, I felt it would be easier if I took charge of potty training in entirety. When it came to the "stand or sit" issue, both my boys sat on the potty, but learned to stand and go by peeing outside. No joke. We live in a fairly busy neighborhood, but when we were outside and they had to go pee, I'd direct them to the back of the house and tell them to pee in the bushes. Once they were mostly potty trained (could tell me when they had to go and rarely had accidents) I told them they could pee in the potty like they did in the bushes. I've never had to clean up after them! Now, my 14 month old girl tries to do stand up and pee in the potty (even though I haven't even started potty training her!) Needless to say, it doesn't quite work out for her! lol

my son is 3 years old he desided to try it on his own After seeing daddy do it a few time just said mommy stand when he went potty, Sure is a messy process though hardest thing is aiming. Stick with it encourage him though i a pain good job n high five maybe a sticker to make him feel good

my son (2yrs old) is just toilet trained too, and his dad wanted to try teaching him, be he was finding it to hard to co-ordinate all the skills needed to do this, and got really upset if he pee-ep on himself, so we stoped trying. i justed to teach pre-school, and alot of the boys even 4-5 year olds still sat. it's a skill they will learn evenutally. Congrats on gettting out of nappies, that's awsome!

It was summer when my son began potty training so he learned to stand (first) outside in the woods, or at the park. He sat on the potty inside until he was about 2.5yrs old and then one day pulled a stool over and stood up to pee. He had horrible aim, but we taught him to lean over a little bit to point himself down. So for him, he decided to stand on his own.

This would be good info to know indeed, my son is only 4 months old so Im aways off of potty training, but I am also interested in this. With my daughter she watched me and her daddy go to the bathroom and I think it somewhat confused her to watch daddy standing up, would it confuse my son when hes ready to watch me sit down and my husband to stand up?

My son just decided himself one day. He had been trained for about a year. He was 4 and a half ish. I suppose realistically they need to be tall enough to go standing without needing to stand on anything. For safety reasons.

I being a working stay at home mom (I work 3am-8am and stay home during the day) get to teach our son. I spent months on and off trying to potty train him sitting down. After how many failed starts I gave up sitting him down and for fun tried standing him up and that made all the difference. We let him watch us pee so he knows that mommy and daddy pee in the toilet too. I guess he noticed that him and daddy have the same parts and daddy pees standing up so maybe thats the way he should too.
I found it easier this way anyway, I just set a stool in the bathroom and when he needs to go he just stands on the stool and goes instead of fumbling and trying to get on a seat.
When you notice him going through a monkey see monkey do stage take full advantage of it and have daddy show him how to pee standing up.

My son was completely potty trained one month shy of being 2 1/2 he started out using the "big" potty and he has always stood to pee even in the beginnig but he has always been very tall for his age. I potty trained him.

I started potty training my son at 15 month because he saw his cousin using the toilet and wanted to copy her haha. I trained him with sitting first and told him to make sure and point down. After a month he was completely potty trained. One day (about 3 months later at 18 months) he decided he wanted to start peeing like daddy. It took a couple of days, but he got the hang of it. We let him choose if he wanted to sit or stand. Made a big thing about him going potty either way, just as long as he was using the potty haha. He is now 22 months (23 months on the 1st) and when I reach for his seat to go potty he tells me "No, big boy" haha. So, now he only sits to go poo!

I taught my boys but they never got it, so I had a family friend show them. Then I regretted it and made a rule of sitting only. SO tired of the pee on the wall, pee all over the seat, pee on the floor. My bathroom is so much cleaner now that everyone sits.

My son refused to sit, but had bad aim, it's important to go with your sons own needs so he'll be comfortable using the toilet. Put a cheerio in the toilet and tell him to squirt it. Or sounds bad but let him pee outside if you have a private spot in your yard and have him make a design. Kinda like how men write their name in the snow. My son has been potty trained since 2 and now he's 4. No issues.

I have a little girl but she has a little nephew and i guess she has saw him stand up to pee a couple times ( he is a 9 months older then her) well she gets it in her head that she also has to stand up and pee and gets so made when she cant pull her wee wee out and pee standing up. So i guess this is to show my nephews mom stands to pee and my little girl wants to stand and pee but i also have a 10 yr old nephew who always sits to pee even to this day.

My husband taught my eldest about 3 1/2 to stand. My mom helped with my middle son around 3 1/2 on a visit in the winter (write your name in the snow). I taught my youngest about 3. It all depends on size and when they are tall enough to stand up and be able to hit the comode and when they have and interest.

My son is currently being trained at 2 years 4 months. He saw some boys at his preschool peeing standing up (he's the youngest there), and now he insists on it. He's still working on his aim, so the pee gets in his little potty (he's too short to reach the toilet), but it also gets on the floor, on his leg, and I try to keep a distance so it doesn't get on me. But he's very proud of himself and he enjoys the process!

When I first started with potty training, I tried to get my son to stand, but it didn't work. So I left him sitting on the potty. After about 3 months he decided on his own to stand and pee as he sees his daddy do it. No need to try to teach him to stand, he will do it out of his own.

We are not going to teach our sons to stand. My husband, out of respect for me having to clean the pee splash over, off the toilet and floor started sitting, so there is no way i would let my children stand. If they are out at a public restroom and want to stand, no problem, but at home where I am the one who cleans the bathrooms, they do not stand.

My son could go standing up around 2 years. I'd just put a step stool in front of the toilet. Try the Cheerios or Fruit Loops to teach him to aim and to lighten the mood a bit. Remember, every child is different.

My son has been completely potty trained for about 3 months now (3 1/2 years old now) and he stands maybe once every 20 times and the rest he sits back and makes sure his penis is aimed at the water. Never gets urine on the toilet seat. I don't have a problem with him peeing. Some guys do it that way, no big deal. Don't bug him, he'll do it in time, or maybe he won't...his choice.

My son sat down to pee for a long time. Once he got into school and saw other little boys standing he did it himself. There is no harm or shame if he wants to sit down. It certainly can make for less mess if the aim is less than perfect.

I am due with my first boy at the end of Sept. My friend who has 4 boys said that she didn't teach them to stand until the were at least 4.

My son is due in a couple weeks (or less) and I plan on teaching him to stand up once I feel he's tall enough to do so. He'll probably go to the bathroom with my husband like our daughter did when she was learning, but I don't see it being effective until they can actually make it into the potty. My friend's son wasn't trained until he was almost 4 so he mostly stood when he went. The only other experience I have potty training boys is with my neighbor and he always sat down b/c there were never any boys teaching him to go potty.

my 29 month old is potty trained now and he's started doing this hovering motion while sitting on the potty so he can see when he's peeing but wont stand up to do it lol although his dad took him to the toilet and he peed in a urinal so im hoping he soon grasps standing up while using the potty lol x

I think it really depends on how old DS is. I didn't teach son to use the potty until he turned 3 and then about a week after he learned successfully (took 4 days, but that's another post, LOL) I walked into the bathrrom and he was standing to use the potty. I was amazed as I knew I or DH hadn't showed him how! I asked how he knew to do that and he told me his 13 yo sister taught him! LOL When I questioned her, she said she was tired of cleaning up the pee off the floor (one of her chores was their bathroom) and told him to do it standing. She said she only had to help him (talking him through it and watching to make sure he did it right ) twice. When I told her my amazement she said. It's just standing and pointing, it isn't THAT difficult! LOL I was thoroughly amused at myself for thinking it would be akin to rocket science or something! LOL
