Switching baby from bassinet in parents room to crib in his own room

My husband keeps asking me when we are going to put our 14 month old in his own room at night. Right now he sleeps in his bassinet right next to my side of the bed. I am very paranoid about putting him in his own room because I am afraid that if he spits up and starts to choke or possibly something else I won't be able to get to him in time. I know I am going to have to switch him to his crib in the near future because he will be too big for his bassinet. We have baby monitors but I am still anxious about it. Any advice?

Hi! I totally understand how you feel. My boys room is upstairs and my hubby and I are downstairs. Anyway, I think if you have monitors you will be just fine! I just had them turned up loud, at first, so I could hear everything. However, at 14 months the "spitting up" phase has usually past. My 14 month old has reflux so he is still spitting up occasionally, but not while he is sleeping and even if he did I am certain it would wake him up and he would would roll over or even sit up. I know it's a hard transition but he's growing up and should probably start to getting used to his crib. We are currently trying to transition out of the crib into the toodler bed (my little guy is a climber) Good Luck!!
