My son turned a year old on March 24th and we have been trying to switch him to whole milk gradually (half formula half milk) and ever since we have started adding the whole milk he has diarrhea where it gets out of his diaper and is everywhere! It is every time after he drinks his milk (sometimes right away or in a few hours.

Is this normal? When will his body get used to it I am so done with changing diapers where the shit is everywhere lol thanks.

maybe you are giving him to much to start try reducing the amount you are giving him per bottle. start with 1/8, then after a couple of days add more.

If he his still not tolerating it in very small doses, you might need to wait longer and try again later.

As an adult i dont keep eating things that give me diarrhea, so dont make your child do it either :( diarrhea can cause dehydration and alot of other problems. So cut back, and if that doesnt improve the situation, cut it out completely. His body isnt tolerating it. Could also be a lactose intolerance. try some lactose free milk and see if it makes a difference, then you will know what the deal is.

I can tell from experience, shit pains from lactose intolerance effing hurt. I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Its painful.

My son is 11 months old this month and I switched him over to Whole Cows Milk on last month.. He has Diarrhea for about two weeks until his body and tummy got used to it. I consulted my family doctor and also a few health nurses and it was completely normal. I was thankful for sure when it was back to normal cause the smell was just RANK! Good luck!

When switching a baby to whole milk you have to start with a small amount. I did 1 oz whole milk to 7 oz formula. This is the new formula for 1 week. After a week if everything goes well up the whole milk to 2 oz for a week. If you originally started with half to half you need to let his system rest for a while or your baby will develop an allergy. Also, it is very important that your baby is getting other foods too that are steamed and blended to no bigger than the tip of your pinkie. ALWAYS, start with a couple spoons full. Dont rush new foods. This is how babies get sick and become allergic.

LActose intollerance has nothing to do with mommy's milk. It has to do with COWS MILK. perhaps try using goats milk instead of cows milk - it is closer to human milk than cows milk.

my kid just hates the normal milk. he gets loose stools and stuff too so i've just given up on the idea and am keeping him on formula.

I have the opposite problem with cows milk, it just makes my daughter very constipated and uncomfortable. Strange how it has such a different effect on different children!

My son is 10months old, i have him on "homo" milk during the day...he gets 4-5oz of it at lunch and dinner, but with breakfast and before bed, i'll give him an 8oz of his formula. Its best to start with "homo" milk i was told then gradualy move up to the 1% and 2% milks. But your son may also have an allergie and you might have to put him on Soy or Goats milk. You could always check with your doctor to be sure :)

I had the same problem with my son the dr told us pretty much the same thing. well after 2mtnhs of drinking whole milk we found out he is allergic. so if you keep trying the whole milk and the problem keeps happening get an allergy test to make sure hes not allergic.

that is a funny misunderstanding. :) Lactose tolerance has a variety of severities - so things like milk might bother your son whereas cheese might not. anyway.. you may still want to try goats milk.

i think she meant her son likes dairy as much as she does ;) and not that she herself is a dairy product lol

Yeah he really loves it and doesn't mind the taste so hopefully he isn't lactose intolerant cuz he loves dairy products like me lol but yes trial and error got to love it :))

sounds like a good plan, once his stool are back to normal, give him a *small* amount and look for loosening in his stools and go from there :)

trial and error , just like 99.9 % of parenting lol

I called the doctor and she said she thinks it is a stomach bug since he threw up twice on Wednesday. Alot of kids have been sick recently so hopefully that is it, no more whole milk till he shakes this bug then we will re-introduce it,
Thank you for the advice :))
