I am wanting to get a tattoo for my son but I don't really want to do just the regular old foot or hand print.

Any ideas on tattoos for moms with kids? Any one else get a tattoo for their kid?? And if so what did you get??

I want to get a unique one for my son but am kinda of stuck on ideas, getting one of some kind of bird keeps popping in my head but still not 100%

I want to hear some unique ideas and possible see pics of other peoples

Thanks : )

I have a few ideas of what I am getting for my son. ( I have to wait until I am finished breastfeeding) his birth flower or his name come to mind. If you think about a bird, what about like a stork carrying a baby and then just make it your own. Just an idea.

My mother and I got matching tats for her mothers day and my grad present they are hibiscuses mine on my foot and hers on her shoulder, I just had my daughter 2 months ago and i am wanting to get her name underneath the flower and try to talk my mom into getting mine and my sisters names around her flower. I think it is a good way to share something between mother and daughter

My son isn't born yet but as soon as I can after he's born I'll be getting a retro styled rocket ship with my sons name on it. Not sure where I am putting it yet as I have quite a few tattoos already. My boyfriend is going to be getting our sons birth date tattooed on the inside of his upper arm in roman numerals.

I also had a hard time deciding what I wanted because I did not want the normal foot prints either. I chose mine because as soon as I found out he was a boy I decided I would have his nursery theme be a rocket ship theme along with the fact that I want him to always reach for the stars. Something I plan to teach him in life.

I have one....Its a treble clef with stars around it. I am into music and have been my whole life so thats why I got it. It has 3 distinct stars around it and I had each of my children pick a color for their star. They love it because they know which one is theirs.

My DH and I just recently had our last. Being irish, I got a grouping of shamrocks done- a 4 leaf one for my DH and 3 3-leafers for my kids. I am really happy with it! My condition was that I wanted something that could be built onto incase we have a surprise baby or so that I can add more for grandbabies someday.

I had it planned that around my back tattoo I was going to get my kids names and then I am planning on getting 2 chuckling bugs one big and one small for my son and father - my dad's nick name was chuckle bug and we named my son after my father's middle name. And boy is he just like my dad!!!! Looks and personality! Not sure if I'll get one for my new LO, we are naming his middle name after my husbands uncle who passed away but I never met him so I don't have anything significant for him.

i have one for my kids. they are "irish twins" which means they were born a year apart. so i got their names and two 4-leaf clovers that are the same size and look the same. if the doctors told you anything unique about your baby thats probably a good idea to use.

I got the outline of my 4 kids' (2 bilogical and 2 step) handprints fanned out over my hipbone on my side and colored in with their favorite colors (the boys are stripes and the girls are polka dots) and they were able to help do a little spot of their hand! I'm also fixing to get a Woody and TinkerBell together for my two biological children! My husband has their actual "signatures" on his leg

Hi Katie, when my daughter was born I took a picture of her into the shop with me and the artist took her face and did a portrait tattoo with her face on a baby in the clouds with her name underneath it. :)

I named my oldest daughter Acacia after the tree and I am mostly Irish so I got a knotwork tree with her name spelled out with the roots. I like to make the name a part of the tattoo. My youngest daughter's name is Eden and to keep things balanced I am putting her name in the branches of another tree. I love trees can you tell. LOL!

I'll get veins in the leafs where I'll have their named camouflaged in so you can see it close up but back off it just looks like a vine w leaves. Maybe I'll put M heart L at the base for my husband matt and me, laura

Yeah I have seen the block letters of your baby's name which is super cool but when I was looking online I also saw someone had a handprint done but inside the hand print was a pic of something else it was really cool looking but I am still exploring everything so I know for sure that it will be the perfect one but thank you all again for the input!! : )

My mom had 6 kids and she went to the tatt shop with some baby blocks with the abc's on them and got them to scan it and do a pyrimid with the blocks with the first initial of each of her kids. Its really cute. (and it was mine and my older brothers idea) :-)

[deleted account]

My son's name is Skye Walker so I am getting a little storm trooper on the back of my hip. I am also going to get his name on my wrist in white. I know someone who got toy letter blocks and someone who has a tricycle on their back. My bro in law has two sons and he go a combo tat of TC on his back.

I'm with you on the whole footprint thing. I haven't gotton mine yet, but here's what I want. I have one child my daughter Kamryn so I want a butterfly with her name on it somewhere. The reason for this is the butterfly symbolizes "New Life" or "New Beginning" so for me it symbolizes new life because she was born & she's my 1st, but also because my life changed when che was born becoming a "New Life" for me. Just my thoughts. Good luck!!

If your child's name has a meaning you can always have the meaning of the name done. I have one that I am waiting to get that is the meaning of my daughter's name (defender of the stars) so a female warrior with stars above and behind her and my daughter's zodiac sign right above her head. Make sure you see the work of the artist on a live person first!!!!!!!

My good friend just got a tattoo in dedication of her daughter. It had a butterfly, flower, her full name and birth date. I myself plan to get one after my child is born. I plan on getting a frog, full name and birth date done. It seems like you're pretty drawn to the idea of a bird already, maybe check out some local tattoo parlors and see what they have for birds, then you can take that idea and make it your own. Also, this way you get to make sure that you really do love the bird idea.

I actually just got my tattoo on Thursday. I took the paper that the hospital puts their little feet on when their born and had that put on my left shoulder with his first name and birth date underneath. Then I had his birth sign put in the middle to give it a little color. Hope this helps as well good luck in choosing! :)

I was planning to get my son's initials with a shamrock on my foot, underneath the gaelic term of endearment "A Ghra Mo Chroi" meaning love of my heart. I already have a couple of other shamrock tattoos, so wanted to stick with the theme. Now I will have to re-evaluate for my 2nd child, since I unexpectedly got pregnant just before I planned to get the tattoo. I'm thinking that I will do 2 layered shamrocks down the side of my foot still, with the same phrase, but in two different colors, and their initials.

I know you dont want the hand or foot thing. But I'm getting my sons foot print from birth tattooed on my foot. Any other children we may have I will get on my ankle and up. So its kind of looking like my children are walking down my leg. I also thought it would be cool to have my sons foot on my foot. lol

My husband and I took a print of our sons foot when he was 5 days old and he got it tattooed on his arm with his name across it. It looks amazing and the guy was the best in our area so he got all the details of the lines in his foot(not all of them but enough to give some definition) I got our sons name on my right wrist. We also took a print of our daughters foot at 5 days old but he has yet to get her's because we weren't sure if we were having more kids...and we're not lol. So we both plan on getting tattoos again for our daughter. I will get the same thing but on the left wrist and i assume my husband will get her foot print done but maybe on his calf...he isn't sure, which is why we have waited lol
I have a friend who did a tribal sign and did a blue dot in the middle for her son and a pink for her daughter, and she will be getting another blue one in a few months:)
As long as you like it and it's tasteful if it is visible(for work purposes) I see no harm in getting what you want. Even if it's a butterfly to represent your child it's still beautiful.
We have both gotten many comments on our tattoos, just make sure you go in with a solid idea and don't change yuor mind. If you do, you might regret what you got so be sure it's what you truly want:)
Good luck:)
