I'm a first time mom so I don't really know how you know if your baby has started teething yet. He will be 4 months on the 4th and a few weeks ago he has started drooling alot. He also LOVES sucking his fingers/binky but also recently he has been knawing on them instead of sucking them. He normally doesn't fuss unless he is sleepy or he is hungry and the past couple nights he has been really fussy and I have tried all the usual stuff that normally calms him down but nothing has worked.

I assumed that he has started teething but is 4 months to young? How do you know for sure? If it is what can I do to help him be more comfertable?

If he likes a paci hold it nipple down in some water and squeeze it to fill it up with water then freeze it. When he's fussy this will help for a short period but I found that my girls liked this better than anything else I tried. Good luck it will pass sooner than you think

Thanks ladies. I have been giving him infant tylenol and it seems to work ok, he is only really fussy at night and just a tiny bit during the day. I have been giving him the teething rings but it seems like they are to big for his mouth. I'm gonna try freezing one of his binkys and see if that helps at all. Thanks for all your help ladies!!!

Sometimes babies start drooling long before they cut their first teeth, so while it is a sign of teething, it's not always an accurate indicator of when those teeth will come. My son started drooling like a faucet when he was 3 months old, started acting like he was teething at 4 months, but didn't cut a tooth until 5 months. Also, the teeth can be moving around under the gums long before they appear, causing discomfort. Teething for us is a long process, taking several weeks from start to when the teeth finally come through. Try feeling along the gums to see if they're pushing through, when they're almost ready you'll be able to feel them.

We use Tylenol, Baby Orajel, and a large variety of teethers including ones you can chill, and those mesh teething bags with ice cubes in them.

Good luck!

My daughter started teething at 3 months and my olderson at 4.  With my daughter she was happy go lucky with teething,  If she started chewing on her hands I gave her believeit or not a gigantic peeled cold carrot!!!  I held it for her and she nawed the heck out of it till she fell asleep or wanted to do somehting else.  My older son would scream his head off especially at night, gave him infant advil or tylonal.  And another thing where I am in Canada my friend told me to try wonder oil.  I tried it once and holy moly it numbs your gums.  It is use usually for arthritis pain it is organic.  I have no idea where to find it my friend told me about it once

My son started teething at about 3 1/2 months...drooling, sucking his fingers and chewing on his pacifier.  His first tooth didn't actually break through till he was 7 months.  The couple days before the tooth appeared he was fussy.  I put his pacifiers in the freezer and that seemed to work.  I also found this homeopathic medicine called Camilia.  I bought it at the grocery store.  That seemed to work.   My son is usually easy to comfort so if rocking didn't soothe him I would give him Tempra.

My daughter had her first two teeth by 4 mos, 2 weeks. She also started drooling lots more and gnawing on her hands, but she only got fussy when her teeth were starting to cut through. We found that Baby Orajel (only the tiniest dab) and a bit of Baby Tylenol helped with the pain. We also gave her a sippy cup with very icy water so she could bite on the "sippy" to feel the cold. She didn't get much water, but she did seem to enjoy biting on the cold. We couldn't get her to use any cold teething toys at that age, nor even the frozen washcloth trick. She just didn't have the hand-eye coordination then. Good luck to you!

I think my son is teething as well, I got my first tooth at three and a half months also. I give him tylenol for his fever and pain(fevers are common with teething). I also got a soothie brand pacifier and filled the hole with water and stuck it in the freezer, he really likes it.

Hi my son got his first bottom teeth at four months. He was very fussy with his bottles and food( as we started weening him at 4 months) he would bite on the end of his bottles, also go off his food totally. Everytime he teethed he would get run down with a cold etc. Calpol or nurofen for babies works a treat before bed! Also the best teething gel i have found is anbesol, which they sell behind the counter at the Pharmacist, It totally numbs the gum. Cold teething rings aslo work a treat and Nelsons teething granules, which you can get from pretty much anywhere are also great. Failing that a lot of hugs! The signs of teething are usually red cheeks, drooling, trying to put fist in mouth, general crankiness, sometimes my son would get a slight temperature, and 1 time he developed a rash. However, you don't know exactly if all those things are down to teething. Hope that helps

My daughter started teething at this age too. it sounds like teething to me. when he is fussing is he chewing on his hands? we give our daughter teething tabs for her teething pains.Highland's teething tabs can be found in sangsters health stores if your in canada, or from what i hear, they are in wal-mart in the states. They are all natural, and homeopathic, and they work like a charm to sooth her. i recommend them!
