Toilet Training

My daughter just started Toilet Training this Monday, she'll be two tomorrow. Does any one have any tips for me? I have an 11 year old step-daughter, but she was almost 3 and fully Toilet Trained when I was introduced into her life, so I feel I am okay with the years from 3 to 11 but am at a loss with from 2 to 3! They say that is the toughest year and I'm not really sure what to do about Toilet Training. She likes her new Toilet, it's pink and girly and we're going to decorate it with stickers to make it more fun. She sits on it with no problems. We talked about "pee" and "poop" in her diaper for about a month before deciding it was "time." She has watched me use the toilet and we talk about what I'm doing. And we do many other things to try to keep consistency, going same time of day, upon first waking, before and after meals, before and after nap time etc... running around with no diaper on, I even squirt warm water over her labia to help her be familiar with the noise and sensation and to encourage the "feeling" to pee. Is there any thing else I can do? (I don't expect her to be actually "going" yet, I fully expect this process may take several months or even a year to be successful, I just would love any ideas to help make our journey more pleasant from any of you who have "been there done that")

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! :) I didn't mention that my daughter just learned how to walk on April 24th, so we didn't start training until now due to that reason. Walking, in itself, was quite a journey to be shared with those who really want to know the story! I am happy to report that we did have our very first bowel movement "IN" her toilet! Lilly was very calm and sat and passed gas, I praised her like crazy just for that, then she said she had "pooped" in the toilet, I looked, and sure enough...she did! We jumped and giggled and hugged and laughed and high-fived until she was tired of it! I'm very excited and encouraged, please, keep the tips coming! We're not out of the woods yet, and her 4 month old sister may have a different approach, so the tips are very appreciated! And Crystal, that doesn't sound "weird" at all, my Mother said that when she'd flush my excrements down I would cry and wave "bye-bye." Kids do say {and do} the darndest things! Also, I recently just stopped working and did take Lilly to work with me for over a year. I can say that I do not know what type of work you do, but I was in the restaurant business, so I can empathize with that being one of the most difficult and rewarding tasks, to work and take care of a child literally at the same time! Keep it up! It's hard, but sooo worth it!

my daughter started potty training this last november and just turned 2...she still isnt fully potty trained because some days she just refuses to do it. also i work full time outside of the home and she goes to wrok with me so it makes it hard to be consistant. we were told not to force it because it could make her apprehensive about it. every time i go to the bathroom i have her go in with me and she sits on her potty right next to me which she seems to enjoy. we give her lots and lots of praise and clap when she goes, but we do not use treats because we dont want her to regress as she gets older if the treats are stopped. we also have her go at the times you do like right when she gets up meals and before bed....it also helped to run the water in the sink while she was sitting, it seemed to make her have to go. she also really likes to watch me flush it down the toilet (weird i know) but it makes her want to use the potty just to watch it flush! we tried pull ups but she seems to go more in her pants when she wears them than with a normal diaper. i think this is due to the fact she is very tiny for her age (we are both diagnosed with dwarfism) and then dont fit as snugly on her as a diaper, so she may not feel that the pull up is wet. for the same reason we havent tried panties yet....and to be honest im not sure i have enough patience to wash that many as she learns to potty!

My son will be two in Julyand he has been fully potty trained since he was 20 and a half months old. i dont know how pott training girls ges but he took it up quickly, i didnt stress about it. I took away his diapers and put him in underwear, when he peed his pants i let him sit in i until he told me he peed ( which wasnt long after he did it) then id change him. we onlydid that about three or four times then he stopped and started tellng e he had to go. Itdid tae a few weeks more to go poop on the potty without screaming but he finally got i down too!! Good luck, you seem to be doing all the right tings!! :)

when i was training my daughter she was very good i had a few puddles on the floor but she picked it up very quick when she felt like she needed to go we would run down to the bathroom and get the potty out out and she would sit on it for ages before she went but thats what got her used to the potty and soon enough she wanted to go on the toilet she allway got lots of praise and if she didnt have any accedents she would get a treat i found that this worked really well good luck
