My 5 1/2 month old is constipated- she hasn't had a dirty diaper in 2 days. I know it's because she just got started on solids. We tried the karo syrup in water trick, and also tried feeding her a whole jar of peaches to try to get things going. We tried these things yesterday and she still hasn't moved a bowel. Any other suggestions or things that have worked for you? Thanks!

i dont know what kinda juices you have your child on, the apple and prune does work but if it doesnt when my daughter was constipated my doctor tried getting me to do EVERYTHING under the sun but my PHARMICIST told me to try giving her Gatorade apparently there is something in it the helps pass bowel movements so i bought a bottle gave her some and she cleaned herself right out and havent had a problem since.

Whenever my son is constipated I give him corn, it goes right through him he usually ends up going like three times that day and it works really fast

The prune juice and apple juice is a good idea. I always tell my patients to put a couple tsp of prune juice in every 2 oz of furmula every other bottle feed or you can just give the baby the solids of prune fruit. The solids is definitly a good cause for backing your little one up. I wouldn't worry to much unless she is very uncomfortable. Water is a good idea too but pediatrics no longer like the water solution due to it filling the baby up and not giving nutrients which is where the prune juice or even apple juice in the formula comes in. Hope this helps!

babies can go a week with out passing a stool i know its worrieng but dont be
bananas can make them constipated by the way just give regular amounts of water xx

My baby went 7 days without a bowel movement and the karo syrup didn't work for him either. We took him to the ER and the doctor said to give him half of a glycerine suppository whenever he goes 3 days without pooping. It works within 20 minutes.

Have you tried or thought of applesauce, apple juice or prune juice? Both apples and prunes are good to help bowles moving. Also try massaging her tummy really soft and doing the bycycle movement with her legs.
