I did not vaccinate my 2 boys. My oldest is 4 and my youngest is 16 months. Oldest was born in a hospital and the other was born at home with midwife and doula.

The first vaccine is the hep b at the hospital. But do NOT forget about the vitamin K shot too. We opted out of both. Unless your newborn is having sex and taking drugs you can opt out of that shot I imagine pretty easily. The vitamin K shot they say is used for bleeding excessively. Keep your baby boy (if having a boy) intact/whole and you wont need that one either. On the manufactures insert of vit k says jaundice and DEATH are possible side effects besides the fact the baby could die from circumcism too. It is safer and easier to skip both vaccine and shot and keep baby boy whole/intact. The next round is 2 months so you do have time to do some reading and research.

Check out CDC Vaccine Ingredients.

Check out Dr Mercola and Dr Tenpenny. Read manufacture's inserts and check out VAERS.

I really don't think that there is a right or wrong decision on this topic. Honestly, it's your choice and whatever suits your family the best. I have two daughters and they are both vaccinated. To me, I didn't even hesitate not to get it done. I could not imagine if I did not get it done and my child got polio, meningitis, whooping cough or some other disease that they are not protected against and died; I would never be able to live with the fact that I could have prevented it with a single vaccination.

I was watching the show The Doctors recently and this was one of the topics. There was a lady on there whose son had a very bad reaction to his first needle and almost died. He was allergic to something in it, so this lady decided that she would not vaccinate her other children. She strongly argued the fact that people should not vaccinate. I don't know if any of you know this show, but for an explanation, apparently the doctors on it are 4 renowned doctors and they all said that people should vaccinate due to that fact that the vaccines now a days are MUCH safer than they were when they were being linked to autism and such diseases, also they said that more and more people are choosing not to vaccinate and it is causing a real problem because the children that are not vaccinated are catching the diseases and the medical field is starting to see these diseases coming back in higher numbers. That's just something to think about.

Like I said, it never crossed my mind not to but then again, in Canada, children cannot start school unless they are immunized.

It's your choice, no right or wrong. Do some research and follow your heart!

I don't feel strongly on the subject but all of my kids are vaccinated. But I've also witnessed first hand what some of the diseases can do to a person if they are not vaccinated. One of my good friends dad had Polio from childhood. It is not a pleasant sight. He finally passed away two years ago from this disease. The way I look at is this, do I want even the chance that my kids could catch something like that by not being vaccinated? Yes the chances are small they would catch it in today's age but the chance is still there that is why the vaccinations are still there. Ultimately it's up to the parents but I'm glad to know my kids are vaccinated against some really terrible diseases.

I have two children, a two year old and a 3 1/2 month old. Neither of them have been vaccinated. I am 27 and have never had any vaccinations either. I think that vaccinations can be linked to many childhood conditions such as autism, ADD, ADHD and dyslexia just to name a few. Many of these conditions were formerly relatively rare, but they have become more common as childhood vaccination programs have expanded. One myth concerning vaccinations is that childhood diseases are extremely dangerous. Actually most childhood infectious diseases have few serious consequences in today’s modern world. The vast majority of the time, childhood infectious diseases are benign and self-limiting. They also may impart life-long immunity, whereas vaccine-induced immunity is only temporary. I feel very strongly about the subject and have done lost of research myself. You should definitely do research yourself and make up your mind before you have your baby. If you don't you more than likely will be talked into it by the nurses and doctors at the hospital. Vaccinations are a booming industry to the United States and provide revenues of more that $1 Billion a year to drug companies and medical institutions. Like some of the other moms said if you choose to do them, you can delay them until your child is older or space them out more so you child doesn't get them so close together. I do have several books that I have read that you may be interested in.

Hope this helps!

i know im posting alot on this but i really want to encourage the right decision and nothing against jenni but just listerning to doctors could corse you to make the wrong desicions.... doctors do not have theanswer to everything and mara is right u need to do more research then just talk to ppl..... doctors on many cases are wrong for example you go see a doctor and they give you antibiotics but what do antibiotics do... yes they get rid of the problem but for how long..... antibiotics kill off the bad in your system but also the good and instead of doing this weshould be looking at what is corseing the bad not just trying to kill it..... doctors know only what they have been tought and that is not always what is right i really suggest you talk to barabara as well as doing research coz she really opened my eyes

I would recommend reading all you can on this. We have an 9-week-old and won't be vaccinating her. It's such a hard decision and I believe you need to decide this one based on lots of research, not just what your doctor and CDC tell you. I also suggest joining Cafemom.com - there are several chat groups (choosing not to vaccinate, educated parents = educated decisions, etc.) that can guide you to lots of websites, books, and articles. You can start with this website too - www.909shot.com - lots of info. Just keep in mind if you don't vaccinate you must do other things to keep your child super healthy (actually you should probably do this either way). There is a book called Raising a Vaccine Free Child. Good luck!!!!

i defintely agree with lynn when it comes to you need to be properly informed because if a large number of ppl arenot imunising and not taking the proper steps towards good health then a break out may occur but in the case of that break out i am forced to think how many of those unimunised ppl knew what steps to take and how many may have let it slide or where just to lazy to go get shots so it was just easier to not do it.... if you are un imunised and are taking the right steps towards good health then there should not be a problem for you...... it all comes down to information u need to be pro[erly informed

Congrats on expecting your first! I just had my first in April and I remember having to decide if I should vaccinate my daughter or not. There is no easy, perfect answer, but I did do a lot of research and asked many professionals advice. One of the best people to ask is your pediatrician (you may have not picked one yet).
Vaccinations are the biggest break through in medical history, they have saved millions of lives! There are many deadly, horrible diseases that vaccinations protect against, like polio and tetanus. Most of our generation has not lived to see what these diseases really look like, so it is hard for us to understand what we are vaccinating against.

Vaccinations have been linked to Autism in rare cases, but in those cases the children were genetically pre-dispositioned to have autism and the vaccine triggered it, but something else may have triggered it anyway. Also it is the vaccines with the ingredient Thymerisol (mercury) that have come into question. Most vaccines do not have this ingredient any longer and if you are not sure you can ask for vaccines without it. I also know that statistically boys are more likely to have autism.
We have given our daughter most vaccines, but not all. You can research and see which ones are absolutely necessary, you can also choose to spread them out if you are afraid of giving a cluster of vaccines at once.
The reason most of the children who aren't vaccinated are protected is because of all of the children who do get vaccinated (a certain percentage of the population must be vaccinated or there is worry for outbreak of certain disease. whooping cough had an outbreak in southern california and colorado because of the lower vaccination rates).
I have talked with Doctors who are more on the natural/whole-istic side and they have said that vaccinations are necessary and have given them to there own children.

I agree that you must do research and make your own choice. I hope this helps some.

hey how are you? i have also chosen not to vac my children either.... i have 2 sons one is nealry 4 and the other is only 8 weeks...... i am lead to beleive that vacs are linked to sids therefore i have not participated in vaccinating my children...... there is not enough evidence on a larger scale to proove this point... but how much evidence do they need before they put a stop to it how many babys have to die..... my mother inlaw is a very well know woman and would be able to tell you alot her name is barbara o'neill u may be able to google her and perhaps attend one of her seminars and talk to her about this issue..... she also has dvd's on a verity of different issues.... you definently should have a good understanding before making a decisions as important as this.... and u dont want to put your child at further risk by not having the proper information...... there are things other then vacines that can protect your child such as a well maintained diet and a variety of different vits and herbs that can be taken to attact certain things..... hope i could help....
